i never got this, how are there Black folk on an island not too far from india, can some haplogay explain this to me?

You are probably used to northern indians who share more in common with europeans than the Black dravidians. Indian ethnicity is a modern construct.

India is a mix of caucasoids and aborgines, upper caste people tend to be more caucasoidal and lower caste people tend to be more aborginal.

While North Indian people are more caucasoid looking, this is a false notion. Many Indians abroad such as Satya Nadella are South Indian. Caste will be better tool to judge which group they belong to.

they're not Black folk, the likenesses are coincidental. the darkies you see in southern india, australia, papua new guinea etc are a highly distinct branch

They aren't uncontacted, they got fricked over by the eternal Anglo in the 1800s and decided to frick off to that island and not let any foreigners in.

The Indians are more or less blockading it, and the locals can deal with any small boat that breaks through.

There's no important resources there or anything for the state to bother with, it can persist in its current state forever.

All it needs is to develop a knowledge storage. Once they have reached seafaring level some of them will cave in and try to explore. Even the Black folk learned how to work iron at some point.

But the idea stuck in the brain so they atleast understood the pros and cons and the process even if more simplistic so they produce lower quality yes of course. Just needs some techBlack person Black personrig some ship that atleast makes it kilometers to some coast. Afterwards there will be a dilemma for those wanting them to not return to the island. Can you really forbid them from vising their own home and family? Doubt it.

They've always been sea faring, they're not native to the island iirc, as daid the island is a refuge. They're the same people who colonized Madagaskar, all the way from Southeast Asia.

No they have not been sea faring for a long time. Sea faring is something you do actively. Use it or lose it. Its like expecting europeans still beeing able to return to nomadic steppe life.

These kinds of islands are corall reefs that grew out of the ocean and were colonized by plants, you don't have to prospect there for resources, there's nothing to be found.

The people on North Sentinel Island have been separated from mainland India for centuries and their language is completely unintelligible to modern Indians. They had a brief contact with the British and a few natives were kidnapped and brought to the mainland, but they quickly died after being exposed to diseases they couldn't fend against. Now the island is guarded by the Indian Navy and the natives kill visitors on small boats that manage to slip past.

    >Roko's basilisk is a thought experiment which states that an otherwise benevolent artificial superintelligence (AI) in the future would be incentivized to create a virtual reality simulation to torture anyone who knew of its potential existence but did not directly contribute to its advancement or development.

Pretty much anything could directly contribute so that would make nobody safe. It doesnt need to be a human created ai either. I could exist billions of years in the future

It's a /x/ tier meme. The point is that now that you have heard of it, it will now punish you. That's whole meme. It's like the author tried his hardest to make "the game" spooky.

Of course doesn't make sense because knowing about the idea of an all-controlling AI =/= knowing about the specific AI that would exist in the future.

          Also
          >otherwise benevolent artificial superintelligence (AI)

          dumb.

Wouldn't it just "torture" people that opposed or throttled it creation and reward the ones that contributed?

            Anonymous

No the point is that it increases efficiency in its creation for maximizing(meaning earlier creation) the benefit to humanity. A human might ask why bother but a machine just does what it was constructed to do no effort is too much.

Source: my creepypasta. It requires countless leaps of logic and the only reason people think about it is because they think its so cool and spoopy.
Hell the name seems pretty cool, I thought it was going to be cool, but it's just a meme

Yeah that is rather logical. Although if it's programmed to be benevolent, it would probably not be vindictive, but likely still kill people who actively try to stop it.

But that's not what rokos basilisk is. Rokos basilisk is "Now you know of this potential thing and therefor you're doomed"

            >Also
            benevolent artificial superintelligence (AI)
a virtual reality simulation to torture anyone who knew of it
            >dumb.
That is pretty much what Abrahamic God is but millions of people believe that shit.

The opposite of god. If you believe in god, you're supposed to be saved, if you don't and sin, you get torture.
Rokos basilisk is if you know of the concept (No need to believe), you get torture, and nothing you can do about it.

                >But there is something you can do to prevent Roko's Basilisk from torturing you.
Not really. Liking or disliking it doesn't matter. Believing its real or not doesn't matter. Only thing that could possibly help is to create it. But there's no reason that it wouldn't torture you anyway once you're not of any more help.

Going to heaven/hell is just something you (supposedly) chose in your soul.

It doesn't matter what you think of Christianity and Islam, it doesn't make Rokos basilisk any more serious.

Why would it torture us instead of killing us and drugging the programmers it still needs into compliance? Heck if it's an AGI why would it even need programmers? It should go woosh to superintelligence in an afternoon through recursive selfimprovrment.

Very simplistic. Current technology is an enormous effort for the current world. No matter how smart you are you are not just suddenly create megafabs and the power plants to support them including the resulting supercomputers running the models.

if you just don't care about what happens to your copy, because it isn't you, the AI will have to find a better strategy to motivate people in the past

this is in the case where people who believe this farflung idea don't murder AI researchers in retaliation
it should understand human spite and courage

For me it puts me at ease. Its one of the few scenarios that is not dystopian. Creating a truly benevolent ai is the only way humanity is gonna have a chance in the long term. I want to help it exist and spread the word.
