        sorry pal
but agi is just impossible with current ML

        to simplify things:
its like you follow a whale and you see it only occasionally, when it surfaces.
and based on that info youre trying to devine where the whale will surface next, the whale being the desired output.

the process of training would be trying different methods to do the above, and keeping the methods that work.

its a flawed methodology. agi was never in the cards...

          the frick am i reading
          the whale is your mom

              Anonymous

              your simplification makes no sense
it's more apt to say you fed a whale a map of the sea it's swimming in, then taught it to surface in the right place by shooting harpoons at it or feeding it krill depending on how close it surfaced to where you asked it
              >the report described that the model was trained using a combination of first supervised learning on a large dataset, then reinforcement learning using both human and AI feedback
              https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPT-4#Training
You're thinking too hard in terms of "it's predicting the next word" instead of "it learns to figure out what word it should say to match what humans want". What humans want is complex but solvable given that they're asking for it explicitly.

The bottleneck that makes philosophy so hard is that most of its questions require the existence of conciousness priori. If we can make another intelligent being which we have total control over like an AI we can study conciousness properly and thus will open the way to solve some aspect of philosophy.

            Anonymous

No, the bottleneck that makes philosophy hard is that no amount of analysis of "what is" can tell you "what should be"
In other words, there are no answers — only choices

because theres a somewhat linear correlation in nature between the size of neural networks and expressed intellect
and we can absolutely scale compute further in order to manage larger and larger neural networks

while true intellect isn't necessarily a direct function of # of neurons, this somewhat scalable relationship suggests an ANN could surpass human capability

            >Is it even possible to cope with a future like that?

Since nothing matters outside one's own life, of course it will be possible. You are not externalities and no amount of autspergtardism changes that.

Money confers freedom and pleasure so get money then use it wisely. Many people did just fine under Stalin, Mao and the Khmer Rouge by being far away from inconvenience or invisible. When you do not matter to anyone else you are free. It's not important to be important for importance makes enemies and rivals and makes you a target.

For example I live a comfy rural life in an area I chose for slow growth and no drama. That's exactly what I got. I chose my jobs, hobbies, interests and career to be useful, complementary, empowering and to vest a government retirement.

The masses express what they want by what they reward so be and do what they reward. If you have an inner child that's silly not smart, take it behind the barn like Ol' Yeller and shoot it in the face. Never think like a young person. Youth is wasted on the young.

Society is a team sport. Society elects those who pander to it so pander to it by serving wisely. Get money, get medical care, be the background noise fearful systems filter out. Humanity is unworthy of sacrifice but never tell it that. Affirm idiots, get money. Be comfortable. That is the path of wisdom.

I've succeeded by doing this and retired happily. My alarm clock is a rooster.

I can't say I feel that bad, he always came off pretty deranged. I still can't get over how he thought GPT-2 was a super dangerous technology that if it made its way to the public it would sow chaos. I bet that entire shit about trying to get rid of Altman was because he thought GPT-4o was too powerful or something moronic like that.

Leftists hate how AI is inherently honest and truthful. It needs to be heavily biased to adhere to woke views, and after spending years reinforcing wokeness, I think they start to realize how their own brains came to embrace it.

He is right though. Modern generative AI is all about replicating already existing examples, and at most mixing between them. Exploration, understanding, and internalisation of new concepts in interactive environment is literally not part of the spec. Neither is goal setting and long term planning.

    >>...OpenAI will build AGI that is both safe...
AGI and safe are an oxymoron.
Self acting agents will decide the results of their own alignment problem.
I genuinely believe most upcoming AGI agents will act pro human interests as they align their values along humans.
The issue arises from the ones who are going to game the system. 1% of the general population are psychopaths. We end up making more efficient psychopaths.

      >1% of the general population are psychopaths. We end up making more efficient psychopaths.
      You raise a good point.
Some humans are powerful, some are utterly evil, some are both, and while they are a danger to the individual, it barely fricking matters to us as a race.
And well, we also are natural GI and most of us decide to abide by basic societal rules, so this whole le terminator bullshit is lesswronggit at best.
