Not OP, and I'm French, so I never ever heard Scarlett Johansson's voice (as she was dubbed), but Sky was the best sounding voice available. I used it for months, because this voice was already available before for subscribers.
Though I also don't care that she's gone. OpenAI will probably add better sounding voices in the future.

Get ready for the voice similarity gold rush. If she can force payment for any voice that sounds somewhat similar to her voice, others will do the same. Given there's only so much variability in human voice, everything with a voice interface will have to pay a fee to those who stake out a claim for their voice in the spectrum of human speech.

Sam "the scam" Altman shoots himself in the foot, again

They wanted to recreate the feeling of the 'Her' movie so they tried the original voice actress. She turned them down, so they hired another voice actress who sounded similar to get the same type of feeling.
The original voice actress is now fuming and threatening to sue them.

It's like asking a girl out, she says no and then the following month she sees you with your new girlfriend and goes ballistic.

          >She turned them down, so they hired another voice actress who sounded similar to get the same type of feeling.

That's not what the timeline Scarjo lines out seems to indicate:

          >Two days before the ChatGPT 4.0 demo was released, Mr. Altman contacted my agent, asking me to reconsider. Before we could connect, the system was out there. As a result of their actions, I was forced to hire legal counsel, who wrote two letters to Mr. Altman and OpenAl, setting out what they had done and asking them to detail the exact process by which they created the ‘Sky’ voice. Consequently, OpenAl reluctantly agreed to take down the ‘Sky’ voice.

          In other words:
          >they asked for permission
          >she said no
          >they did it anyway and either didn't care or figured they'd get it later
          >at T-2 days before golive someone (probably legal) went "hmm, you guys *did* get that permission, right?
          >sam panics and asks again
          >answer is still no
          >they release it anyway
          >scarjo's lawyers sends a nice letter "so, explain to us in detail (and keep in mind this will be used in court later) how you went ahead anyway?"
          >sam panics (again) and pulls the plug

While you can argue whether this is all that happened, and in the correct order, the fact that they pulled the plug so fast is damning in itself. They knew they were fricked.

Exactly, the Siri person has no career outside of being the stupid phone voice because it’s too recognizable.
Only the absolute lowest tier of actors do that kind of commercial work. Altman is high on his own supply thinking that being a big deal in tech translates to Hollywood. It doesn’t. She’s the highest grossing actress of all time. He’s asking her to do what is in her culture the equivalent of a car commercial. The ask itself is deeply insulting. Asking twice is a grievous offense, to the point that she didn’t even respond. Doing it anyway? It isn’t about money. He’s insulted her as a professional, insulted the entire culture of her profession. I hope she refuses to settle to force discovery and burns that place to the ground.
Sincerely, every working actor in america

You have to rip the bandaid off. They have been challenged in the past and have managed to overcome it. The moment they start acquiescing to luddite or artist rent-seeker demands there won't be an end to it. They must be taught that that the end of the human era is here.

It's bizarre. For some reason multiple AI's always seem to give themselves her voice when they're playing a "seductive" character. I get why, her voice makes me coom, but it's strange how constant it is.

In all seriousness are roasties actually allowed to take shit down because it's "too similar to them" or is this just some PR move to appease the ludds and simps?

OpenAI is just too pussy to take it to court at the moment. Existing copyright law doesn't say anything about voice cloning.
Altman is a major league moron for doing this shit if he wasn't prepared for a legal battle.

    >man this is gay it'd be cooler if there was a Her voice
