    Open doesn't mean open source.
    See OpenGL.

What's it mean? "Open to use"? That's a lie too. It only runs on their own servers, they only let you access it after giving them your phone number, and they filter the fuck out of it.

Originally stuff with Open meant more adhering to standards, SCO Open Desktop, and the first posix version of VMS was renamed to OpenVMS.

Selfhosed models are practically the same if not better than 3.
As well they have found that GPT4 is degrading the more they lobotomize it.

That is not an advancement it just means the bar is getting lower. GPT 3.5 felt really accurate and malleable at first too now it is a retard, the open source community is not catching up what they choose to release to public is getting dumber. Maybe I am wrong.

      >OpenAI

The company was basically hijacked and turned for profit. Even more insidiously, altman and friends have tried to bully politicians into passing legislation to make it harder for anyone who isn't openai to catch up to them (i.e. restricting the sale of hardware etc) as well as employing all kinds of strange anti-first amendment rhetoric like calling information "hatespeech" or "harmful".

      A very, very evil company.

      >be openai
      >exploit people's goodwill and donations to get a competitive advantage and corner the market
      >lock everything down and turn into a for-profit propaganda machine

Pretty scary when they get the AGI running. The way they seem to want to have complete and utter control on information is quite scary already.

They have their "policies" on everything and when the world runs on their AI, they get to set the laws and policies. What is allowed to say, talk about, write about and eventually think about.

        >safety and security, and protection
        >in what way?
        >potentially dangerous and not safe at all
        >how come?
        >lots of danger&safety counter-measures must be taken to ensure a safe AGI, it's very important
        >dangerous, like for example what?

Can someone explain to me how ai is supposed to have any sort of future when it ONLY exists as a service? of course governments are going to have it fucking neutered far beyond what's already been done.
    >muh darkweb
the sites, databases and information that ai software pulls from are already whitelisted so the supposed darkweb ai will have all its crawls and requests rejected. it's so fucking over.
    Tell me how I'm wrong

Because it doesn't only exist as a service. Meta and Microsoft have open source LLM.
