See? That's what I fricking mean. The people b***hing and moaning or absolute dog shit and turns up talent, skill, and quality. It's almost like lazy people are usually the ones angry and jealous at people that are good at something..... This isn't some snarky "haha pencil wagies seeth lol" comment. There appears to be a direct correlation between the people angry about ai art and their artistic talent.

You also have to add the definition of a good artist isn't just skill, it's someone that will actually do the work you pay them to do without trying to culturally change your company. It must be frustrating to work with some of these morons when they start refusing to work because there's too many white characters. I have to believe Velma is what happens when you let these artists have free reign.

Because the state of the art stuff is paywalled. Its not like it costs much tho. If I was a big studio I would just pay for a corporate subscription. Even if it was $1 per image it would still be worth it vs these talentless Black folk. At these prices it might as well be free...

A background artist still has to care about perspective. What's going to actually happen is background artists will be able to quickly compose something that is perspective correct (to the camera) and then use img2img to get a better output. It will just mean background artists won't be as overworked or that they will be able to make even better backgrounds. You can always compare the quality of theatrical films to budget animation for TV to see the difference in the details of the backgrounds.

I dunno man. Maybe that happens but that OP tweet directly referenced a labor shortage being why they used this AI art. How long until that shortage is no longer a shortage because that job is eliminated?

                Anonymous

There's a shortage of USEFUL talent. We're running out of dependable people who can do the job reliably without complaining about it. What's actually happened is all the good people have jobs and the people without jobs are people you don't want to hire because they're either unreliable or they're demanding an above-market salary.

No it means only a fraction of background artists will still have jobs and they will be just as overworked. Imagine thinking a company will pay the same amount of employees to do less work per employee.

Doesn't matter, efficiency ultimately means it lowers the barrier to entry. The only thing this threatens is the studio model. Also there's always more work to do, when you're doing something for profit, you can always do MORE things to make MORE profit.

Yes the barrier of entry is so low that you can hire a few Somalians for $1 an hour to churn out 10x more goyslop cartoons than usual and compete with the millions of other Somalians doing the same thing.

Do you realize how much computing power stable diffusion takes up? Now imagine the electricity it takes to generate an entire movie at a decent resolution. You and your shitty computer can never compete with Disney and their render farms.

                Anonymous

You do realize that Stable Diffusion is capable of rendering photorealistic scenes right now? You do realize that I said "in our lifetimes" for a reason. I didn't say tomorrow. But in 10 years, probably. In 20 years, definitely. In 50 years, it'll be laughable that we used to rely on mega corporations to make a movie.

I assure you that they won't. If they didn't give enough shit about their own ideas to make them into anything before AI became widely available then why would anyone else? I doubt they themselves ever thought it'd go anywhere.
They'll make it faster and cheaper, but never better as that would require actually getting good which apparently is a no-no.
All we're going to get is an endless flow of infinitely recycled goyslop.

More demoralization. You realize that major studios are already hemorrhaging money right now right?

It's not fricking "demoralization", I'm telling you how it will logically go. Your dream anime will either never happen or be instantly forgotten. A toy widely available to everyone made to replicate shit won't help you.
The internet will get flooded with near identical garbage, with your "work" contributing to that pile.
Seriously, what would cause this hypothetical future person's work to become the greatest or unique? Surely not the AI considering its wide availability and surely not their skills that they've never bothered developing.

In-betweeners will be first before background artists, and good riddance, ecause it will be done with better quality and upskill people into doing better and important stuff.

In-between is entry level for young people who are starting out. Eliminating those roles will close the door for them getting into the industry.

It's like saying custom software that scans and inputs data into a database eliminates data entry jobs is bad. That's not how entry level jobs are "created", something that is tedious, very unimportant to the job or busywork will be assigned in place of the eliminated job. It will just be the next lowest rung on the ladder that will get assigned to newbies and it will probably be backgrounds or something. Ideally, you don't want to have entry level anything that is particularly different from what your seniors are doing and that's why software programming is one of the more equal jobs out there even if you have to do rudimentary changes to the codebase in comparison, it's still 99% the same thing.

No, midwit. You're either just too lazy to load a decent model or are laughably bad at prompting. Even some of the anime models are decent at making good backgrounds.

Yes, this is true, but the good SD models are still paywalled. Paid SD models behind a web interface mog the free ones sadly. Still, I'm glad that the technology is there in the open. If someone happens to have a trillion tagged images and a server farm they can train a good model at home. (When are we making a distributed computing cluster to train the ultimate waifu model)

Your GPU speed has nothing to do with how good the images look. That's like saying me having a reading speed of 500 works per minute makes me a better cook. Sure that means I can absorb information quickly but someone who's been cooking for a living for decades will still shit on anything I ever make.

I think there's two big things holding back image generation:
              1) img2txt is laughably bad and we need to be able to have human descriptions of these millions of pictures and better yet, auto captioning frames from movies (will be necessary when we go into the land of AI animation)
              2) image resolution is too small, we need to be able to train on uncropped, full-sized images

                Anonymous

for point 2, thats pretty easy actually. Its just that most models are trained on square images for uniformity reasons. Technically you can have any aspect ratio and resolution. The higher the resolution the longer the training times ofc. As for aspect ratio tho, its just a square because you can then crop both portrait and landscape content without losing too much info.

Forgot to mention, the whole dataset is trained on one resolution. That's just how the tech works. Having different resolutions in one dataset is basically impossible.

Until we can train at 1080p at a reasonable speed we're bottlenecked. Although honestly the quality of the caption data is itself its own major problem.

                And that's a problem.
