LLM boom is cooked

Look at the training cost trend for these models...
Unless OpenAI or someone else has more money than the GDP of a large country, we might see things leveling off in terms if progress soon.

there was never a boom, it's a grift. AI is a scam. it's only good for unmanned drone bombing onto gazan children and shilling for the state on online forums. that's it. that's the application.

Can't they use chatgpt4 to train chatgpt5 for free?

They could use gpt3 and gpt4 together and skip to seven. We're basically geniuses they should just pay us to train it

Do any of you gays actually read scientific papers?

      >learning from data produced by other models causes model collapse — a degenerative process whereby, over time, models forget the true underlying data distribution … this process is inevitable, even for cases with almost ideal conditions for long-term learning

Wait a minute. When did they start training gpt-5? Maybe it will train on the abnormal mass of ai slop from the current web which would lobotomize it even more than it already is.

They have 2.25 billion don't they? I mean, their supposed company valuation is 80 billion, so it should be easy for them to raise that much from venture capitalists, no?

To be real though, a couple dozen billion is pocket change to the wider industry
and since omg AI is the big new thing, this craze will go on for the duration of the decade

gpt5 needs to do some crazy shit in order for it to return the investment
if it's just gpt4 but better (+ multimodal) then it's going to flop hard

They need some actual innovation, it’s pretty clear that just scaling up the current models is a dead end

The Maxwell Nvidia datacenter will bring the training cost down by 10x or 20x, which brings it around the same level and time to train as GPT-4.
However now you have the problem that you need to spend hundreds of millions as a one-time payment to Nvidia.
