they fricked themselves over with their moron working culture which really meant most workers pretending to do shit and slacking off for fricking hours on end just to end the day with the respect meeting with zaibatsu bosses in some dingy karaoke bar after 10:00 p.m. and watch them plow and molest their female workers
then off back to work at 6:00 the next day for the next 14 hours.

They can't? At least I don't think they will. Any major firms working on AI in Japan? Not heard of any. They've got bigger issues anyway, namely China and the fact that the country is literally dying at an ever increasing rate without the need for continued outside influence.

I lived there for 3 years working for my company, and while is hyperbolic as frick, hes basically right. Their work culture is the most insane, useless shit I've ever seen, and Japan has been behind on major tech innovation, quite severely, for at least a decade now.

I don't think Japan's as behind in robotics as most people claim. They're definitely no longer in primacy but I think a few government incentives could fix that. I wish I could go work there atleast.

They're suffering from low birth rates and brain drain like many other countries. Other countries deal with it by letring in immigrants, Japan can do it too. I know immigration is a no-no word in bot but only because countries like Sweden, USA handle it poorly, letting in anyone and everyone including muslims and africans.
I think if Japan makes a really stringent process, they can score a lot of skilled labours from many countries. I think a lot of the newer engineers who grew up with anime would kill to visit and possibly work in Japan. Ofc, shit pay, long work hours and moronic working culture still needs to be fixed to retain the workers.

in japan, 'robotics' means industrial shit that has to have a return on investment, not something that can do backflips. those sony androids back in the day where basically just a line of toys. in fact, they actually sold robot dog toys.

as an example, a few years ago toyota redesigned its factory work floors and the robots it used in them. this means that a toyota factory can turn a profit at 30% capacity, rather than the industry normal 70%. this of course is the same company that invented the q-code with one of its subsidaries, back in the 80s. so this is the sort of shit that japan does, not the venture capital vapourware that creates glow in the dark startups that never seem to do anything. japan is still an industrialized country and the big corporate combines actually make physical products that they have to sell. so this sort of thing is important to them.

these are the same people that still use fax machines because they're still useful to a people that use three different writing scripts.

              Anonymous

I'm pretty sure artificial wombs have already been invented, just a matter of commercializing them.
But, I don't think a high population of workforce is needed in the future when robots and AI automate most of the work.
I think Japan should invest inrobotics and AI so they help out with healthcare so there isn't a big burden on the smaller workforce. Even better if they invest in de-aging and other modern medical treatments which would reduce the amount of money spent on treating old people.

lmao it was their own greedy companies paying the price for their underhanded stock trading tactics. If you're referring to the currency weakening, Japan benefitted from that. The closest I see that USA did wrong was stop semiconductors and their designs from coming into USA or the high tariffs placed on their products in the 80s. All of it was wrong but those definitely weren't to blame for the collapse in the 90s.

1987 trade war between the US-Japan fricked them, the US imposed tariffs/sanctions on Japan and they never recovered, that + demographic crisis it was over, then they conspired to keep away EUV technology away from Japan so Nikon fell behind as well.

"Computer vision is a field of artificial intelligence (AI) that enables computers and systems to derive meaningful information from digital images, videos and other visual inputs — and take actions or make recommendations based on that information. If AI enables computers to think, computer vision enables them to see, observe and understand." - ibm.com/topics/computer-vision
"Computer Vision has a dual goal. From the biological science point of view, computer vision aims to come up with computational models of the human visual system. From the engineering point of view, computer vision aims to build autonomous systems which could perform some of the tasks which the human visual system can perform (and even surpass it in many cases)." Jaoan killed creativity by stealing the future from it's youth. It will shrivel up, a nation starved of youthful vitality and unwilling to bring in immigrants (who bear many children and are highly motivated to climb the social ladder)

Japan has been behind since the early 2000s. Nothing substantial techwise has come out of there for decades. It's honestly mostly all obsolete by western standard. I bought a 2021 Lexus and the tech in there was older than my 2014 Ford.
