Is it morally wrong to enjoy looking at AI art?

Memes aside, whenever I coom to Ai art, I start feeling bad for all the creative people who may lose their job because of this technology. Artists are incredibly kindhearted individuals who help shape the reality that we live in.

Do you think musicians will seethe when ai figures out how to generate music?

      Anonymous

Probably not. VST instruments have existed for many years and have not replaced artists. They're used by composers as an aid in composition (because you can hear how it will sound when performed, albeit with inferior articulation) and by individuals on a budget (VSTs are expensive, but nowhere near as expensive as hiring a full orchestra to perform your soundtrack) who wouldn't be hiring musicians anyways.

Music theory itself was basically solved centuries ago; the vast majority of the best music was produced in the 17th to the early 20th century.

AI music will be used by composers as a sketchpad to get random inspiration / starting points (which, to be honest, many VSTs are already designed around), then once they have a rough idea what they want to do based off of that they'll start ripping it apart into the individual instruments, adjusting and fine-tuning it, and then, as usual, whoever contracted them will take the sheet music to an orchestra to perform.

Basically how things are right now but with more sketching tools.

well musicians already don't make any money at all, so it'll not really change anything other than the 3 musicians who work for Hollywood will be forced into retirement.

Get ready for endless soulless YouTube tier orchestrations, hollow Kpop, and soul destroying corporate music you hear in advertisements literally everywhere.
On the bright side, music has been mostly dead for the last decade so the only difference is that less people will be paid to make it in the future.

Music generation was solved in the late 90s with LSTM neural networks. That's why there's no new good music in the last 20 years.

Musician here. We've already been hopeless and dead inside for a long time. There's no more energy left to seethe or change anything. We will eat the bugs and listen to the same corporate pop/rap songs forever.

they're people with jobs just like everyone else. that doesn't make them inherently kind-hearted
if anything they suck the corporate teat harder than the average person, simply based on the fact that they upload the sweat of their brow on corporate websites for the sole purpose of exposure.

    They're literal janitors.

Ai will never be able replicate the style of pro chinese artists like

People need to abandon the whole "AI will never been able to do x" mentality because there is really no basis for it. Nerds saying it will never learn hands were saying A.I. art would never look good in general before that.

I think the whole classic Luddite "muh jobs" scare is valuable when talking about AI art, but holy shit why are people acting like that's the main issue? It's in some ways it's plainly an abomination. With AI ar people are sincerely just getting excited about how there are new ways for them to consooom product even faster. AI art represents the atrophying of our creative and intellectual capabilities.

    >Umm ackshually this is just like all technological advancement and we will just adapt.

The Japanese thought the Fat Man was just going to be another bomb and look what happened to hose poor fricks.Don't accept new technologies just because they are new. The myth of progress is most alive in discussions concerning tech. Technophiles will clap like seals when an AI to wipe your ass and frick your wife is introduced.

      >The Japanese thought the Fat Man was just going to be another bomb and look what happened to hose poor fricks.
It was far less destructive than the firebombing campaigns Japan had been subjected to prior, moron. What nuclear weapons did was give the Japanese an excuse to surrender honourably - "we didn't give up, they just had an unbeatable wunderwaffe!" The actual destruction inflicted was comparably minor vs prior firebombing campaigns.

        this.
But the nuclear bomb didnt actually exist. The idea for the "ultimate unbeatable doomsday bomb" was just propoganda cooked up by US and Japanese diplomats to allow the Japanese to surrender honorably. (before the red army finished marching east to rape/pillage japan)

boohoo homie, go buy clothes made by artisans with hand-spun threads if new automations bother you so much. or you can recognize that ai is simply a new tool that artists can use, and that like any art there will be some who are better at using said tools better than others.

      Anonymous

      >I start feeling bad for all the creative people who may lose their job
Nobody is going to lose their job to something that returns what is described to it as opposed to what people actually want. It's very good for goyslop like porn, or random anime girls, but getting the exact thing you want is impossible due to the disconnect between your brain and language being used and then interpreted by a language model trained by someone else for a different purpose.

The only real threat this has, is making you waste hours of your life when you could learn the skills for yourself and do it much quicker. Or people frying their brains out on porn.

      >ai is simply a new tool
It's not a tool, that's a non artist cope. Cutting out most of the drawing process because you got an image returned by stable diffusion based on what you wrote is a cope. It's not much better than kids taking highlighters and drawing on photographs.

The benefit of ai for us artists is the tools we already have, getting improvements, and being easier to make with machine learning and often with better performance.
