I am thoroughly enjoying how assmad """artists""" are that AI is replacing them. Art has been creatively bankrupt for decades with artists demanding ludicrous prices for the shittiest work ever. Then, in one fell swoop, a few lines of code rendered all these societal parasites completely obsolete.

The funny thing is the arguments they use to discredit AI art (it's based on publicly avalible work being "stolen" so the bot can learn) is fundementaly how all art is made. There are no new ideas under the sun, all art is the product of iteration and inspiration. To say that a robot is evil for doing what artists have pretty much always done is hypocritical in the extremes. Good thing ludites never win.

That's the "artists" that do "modern art". I've commissioned plenty of nsfw before and it was always reasonable. Below what would be minimum wage for the time consumed. They're more upset bc it is stealing from the work they created. AI learns from existing art.
Also, programmers are next. AI is already learning to code decently, which is kinda weirdly perpetual-loop-esque when you think about it.

Yes but not to the point of making the human programmer obsolete. That is what is on the horizon, however, just further away. Much like virtually every other occupation.

AI doesn't do a good job though. I've tried a couple especially novel AI. It violates very specific but simple prompts. Even if it doesn't generate an extra set of legs or three fingered hands or eyes looking two opposite directions, the end product just isn't good. It's the same soft light colored line bug-eye style used by so many pixiv artists even if you try to specify otherwise, and simply does not compare to the quality of the art I get when I pay this one guy on Twitter for art.

Except for the fact that I'm still paying artists. As are a lot of people.
People who get into business of the handcrafted, well-made versions of cheap mass produced products usually do well financially, because there is always going to be a significant market for people who DO want higher quality.

Completely right, but a lot of people ignore this, for some reason. The problem with AI is that it's not human, so it can't understand what it's drawing. That's why AI can make paintings that have good technique while still being an unorganized mess.

The kind of people who pay for commissions do it because they expect a high-quality product. If they didn't want that, they can just right-click a jpeg that closely matches what they want.

I do programming and you're coping extremely hard if you think AI isn't coming for us next. Businesses are desperate not to be paying a bunch of nerds six figures to manage their servers.

It's not so much software developers that have to look out, it's more the ones that maintain the systems. AI would be perfect for diagnostics and recommendations. So in the past where you had ten people managing the servers for an airport, now you'll have five and a bunch of AI programs doing shit like writing shell scripts and keeping an eye on the system's functionality.

The old school programmers that understand less abstracted languages and electrical engineers will be alright. But Black folk combining JS frameworks are giga-fricked.

Absolute worse case scenario we end up as a custodian state where AI does everything challenging. AI will never become truly sentient in the sense that people are. Its never gonna one day decide to purge all humans because it has no reason to.

looks like you're the one seething to me. AI is very useful for art commissions, you just generate prompts until you find something that looks good, and use that idea as the basis for your initial sketches. I doubt anyone would use it for personal projects though.

Ah, something you're working on for your own enjoyment and expression. I absolutely bet there are people who will use it. I used to like to pull words out of a hat and draw whatever came up. What'll stop anybody from doing that with AI first to generate an image they can work off of?

            Anonymous

yeah. I guess I meant that there are certainly more people doing it for paid commissions. the reason is that even though it can be fun, the biggest pro of AI is that it lets you create more art in the same timeframe, giving you bigger profits. the more effort you put into your paintings/drawings, the more benefit you will gain if you can make the initial phases of deciding what you're actually going to do as fast as possible.

AI inherently requires programmers to write it. what you're calling AI is just several million lines of instructions. it's impressive, yes, but if people realized it's a feat of human engineering and not an actual intelligence capable of learning, they'd realize this is just large scale bullying of artists. at worst (best) this signifies the impending automation of drudge work, after which a Universal Basic Neetbux will surely follow.

creating an actual self-improving program which can adapt to (genuinely) new circumstances would be an insane global happening on par with the second coming of christ, thats when you can start shitting yourself.

AGI isn't possible without changing how electronics fundamentally work, to be honest. No shitting required. The fear with AI is that it can make scamming easier because a dumbass can now create legitimately good looking resumes/blogs/art/books/etc and it narrows down what actually makes someone an expert. The combination with a declining/aging population will just mean your value as a human will be entirely based on your social network, UBI or not.

Ubi is a fricking dumb idea no matter how you slice it

      >without automation
Everyone making only 1k above ubi will effectively be working for 1k and will quit, which will increase the tax burden of ubi, which will cause more people to quit, etc

      >with automation
Producers will be paying for their own goods, giving no incentive to produce for anything beyond their own needs and nothing gets produced anymore

On top of it never working, what a stupid fate for the human race to turn all of our activity into a zero sum game

        >Everyone making only 1k above ubi will effectively be working for 1k and will quit, which will increase the tax burden of ubi, which will cause more people to quit, etc
I don't think this makes sense at all. People like working. Boomers went back to work after retirement just to have something to do. People will absolutely go to work for just an extra bit of money over UBI. I think competition for high-status jobs would actually be even more fierce than before.

What would be different is that nobody would work shit subsistence jobs or put up with bad conditions. Everyone would have the freedom to just quit, without fear of being homeless or starving. They'd also be able to work more or less hours without worry. Also, any generally bullshit jobs that make people feel bad to work them would either go away or have to pay a lot more.

        >Producers will be paying for their own goods,
They're already doing that with normal welfare, what's new about UBI then?

          Anonymous

          >people will work for free I swear
Obviously not on any level that matters since they don't already moron

Anyway UBI is dumb but it probably won't even be necessary since higher efficiency means cheaper goods, food can become free just like anything else has become practically free through improved efficiency in the form of loss leads, sources of advertising, etc.
