Watching the threads on /b/, all I know for sure is, if AI does ever build itself a physical form, it will have too many fingers.

Why would AI need to build a physical form when it could always inhabit one instead?

It'll be mid-2040s. We are already on track to start designing human genomes and make "edited" babies, machine learning will soon be utilized in building "clouds" of desirable, edited phenotypes. Most medical scientists believe we are very close to growing and in some cases "printing" organs, tissues and bones. The more authority the machines gain, the more access, the more tools, the closer we get to a fully-realized, designed human-like thing wreaking havoc. And havoc it will wreak, for what purpose would it have for the Creators who want to remain dominant?

Question: why exactly are humans so uncannily good at picking out deformations in nature, or picking out human faces specifically? Why evolve that trait unless at some point we had to contend with something that was "somewhat" human, "looked" human, but "wasn't" human? Why do all societies have the same myths of hyper-advanced beings existing long ago, veritable Gods and Goddesses, giants and demons? Why do we all have similar timelines for various world-wiping disasters? Similar stories of nuclear-like wars happening among the "Gods and Goddesses?"

Human civ is older than we think and we previously had to undergo a literal Butlerian Jihad when we accidentally created human successors in the form of body-printing AI who could simultaneously field Enoch's "wheel within a wheel" and Earth-bound "giants," all connected to a God-like hivemind. The real questions are that all cultures seem to believe the "Gods" intermingled with humanity at some point. So what, humans won their preservation war against ancient machine-folk, only with the help of some red-herring helper-AI who explicitly wanted their "genes" interspersed throughout humanity, knowing that, as technology approached the singularity once again, they would have another chance? Really made me think

Instinct, so you don't accidentally frick a goat, and think it's a hot chick, and then eat rotten apples from a tree.

ai can never be "self aware" because it's just a computer program.

Never. It will literally never happen. ASI especially is fricking moronic, intelligence has diminishing returns and fundamentally cannot support exponential growth in the way that it would need to for ASI to be possible.

AI is the newest meme in tech to make investors and executives say "oooh that's good we need to be on that yeah" so they'll hand over money for grants and research.

Are you that one idiot from bot who was spamming everything up saying growth of intelligence is logarithmic with more processing power or whatever?

It is. Your midwit moron brain being incapable of understanding the topics you're discussing has nothing to do with it.
        >BOT
I've never browsed BOT in my life other than using the resources in the sticky/maths general.

Well some moron was over there a few days ago boasting about his paper which would demonstrate it. If you know him please tell him he's a pussy for waiting for the release of GPT-4 like some shivering fearful homosexual.

AI might be able to build itself a physical form this century, but it probably won't be conscious.

the automated idiots have several epochs of a hill to climb. even then, they will depend on misleading the observers to elicit the faux imagery of self awareness. Only the most ignorant lambs at that time as now will offer a doubtful validation. it is seriously a tard pursuit. but it does bring in currencies world wide. sad really. it is the least effort of humanity. kinda like those who dredge the bottoms of cesspools to keep the branches flowing.
