I don't think either one of you realize how much purpose, structure, and meaning a jobs gives you in life. If anything can be had for free due to AI, what makes our lives worth living in the long run? Struggle at least gives us some direction.
People in a post scarcity society could still find work it would just be volunteering on some sort of passion project. Imagine something like Guédelon Castle. Its a bunch of volunteers working to build a castle for the sake of building a castle.

The castle project is also an experiment in rediscovering the techniques used in those times. It's one thing to theorize, and then another to actually do it. The lessons learned in that castle have also been applied to rebuilding Notre Dame.

I really don't understand the idea of deriving meaning or purpose from work. Not even a NEET, I've been working as a lawyer for 7 years now, but it's just a pay check to me. If I could still buy stuff without doing my job, I'd never work another day.
