There is no replacement, they currently have a monopoly on good character chatbots, but they keep ruining it more and more.
I just wish some reasonable company appears and offers the same thing (GPT-3 tier chatbox model) but with good management and unfiltered. It has become very clear people will become addicted to it and are willing to pay a lot of money, so I think it’s a matter of time.
Maybe if the model is multilingual, a Chinese or Japanese company might develop it too, since there is a huge otaku market for this. Just imagine, instead of paying $200 to roll a character on a gacha game with static dialogue, you pay $20 and can talk and roleplay as much as you want, the character can become your virtual friend or lover. The potential is huge.

This would genuinely be the worst possible outcome and would immediately kill the site dead.
Japan has absolute bullshit draconian copyright laws that don't have any fair use clauses. This would make the sites main gimmick, talking to fictional characters, completely impossible to monetize without them having to pay exorbitant licensing fees for the characters.
Even than, nip companies tend to have extreme autism about how their characters and ips are portrayed. If you hate that nsfw filter now, it'll be a lot worse if it gets applied to basic conversation just to make sure the ais never deviate from how the companies want them to act.
Well, I mean for games like Azur Lane or Blue Archive or those coomer Korean gachas, they could make a website to chat with the characters (better to implement it on a website rather than an app to avoid app store rules). Those games don’t shy away from suggestive dialogs anyway, and it would be an extra incentive to roll for the characters, so you can also talk and ERP with them.
