Hayao Miyazaki Calls Artificial Intelligence Animation An Insult To Life Itself

I really hope some brave hero shove all the beautiful AI generated art on Hayayo Miyazaki's face before he dies or goes senile. This dick must see how wrong he was, he needs to see that all his job, much like cashiers and miners, will be replace by a machine.

I am so gleeful that AI are replacing artists, programmers and other “intellectuals” before they were able to replace industry and logistics jobs. Attend a coal mining bootcamp, Miyazaki, you fat sack of shit.

if you genuinely believe that the current state of AI is anywhere close to "replacing artists, programmers and other 'intellectuals'", i have some news for you...

What it's going to do is allow you to put a skeleton on a 2D designed character and just move the skeleton, give it some hints about the actions/emotions and touch up the trash it throws on the screen, which will still vaguely look like 2D animation. Instead of tweening it's going to be generating almost everything.

Me too, programmers even try to hide their skills to the boss just to keep working lol

Art has a meaning though, that`s why AI won`t be able to replace art until it turns sentient.
I`m not talking about "american art"

he thought the demonstration was tasteless because it had zombies limping around in it and his friend was a cripple or something. if I recall they ended up using procedurally generated (not sure if that's the right term) animation eventually for some of their projects

Yeah it's a great case study of how to plan your presentation for a specific audience. The tech guys did everything wrong given the guy in question was fricking Miyazaki.

This. When you will show something to an audience, especially an audience that you know it will probably have a somewhat hostile take regarding what are your doing/your work, you probably should show the best application of that given technology, or, better yet: an application that it's more probable that such audience connects to/relates with.

Now, that said, there still a big chance that, even if they had done that Miyazaki would still have humiliate the guy and nitpick around the issue, just so that he didn't have to admit that he was impressed with such achievement, a.k.a. coping around.

Because deep down, whether it be weird zombies limping around trying to teach a computer how to animate movement, or a beautiful art done on the style of Ghibli Studio, the goal is the same: eventually automate art and create an algorithm that can replicate/replace his work... and people tend to take this personally.

while it is a bit comical to watch boomers like this melt of this kind of technology, the implication that it would somehow "replace artists" is a bit short sighted. sure it might wind up being used as a tool for large studios to pump out high volume of animation/etc, but artists are going to have interests in art regardless of whether or not something like DALLe exists.

He's not wrong, but he's way too late. Art failed when profits were being counted before the artwork was even finished. In the age where it is mass produced, his comment is almost meaningless.

    >Oh man, Miyazaki is coming to our offices, what should we showcase?
    >I know! Amorphous grey blobs shaking like damned souls in hell!
Miyazaki's take is moronic but so are the devs.

While I agree on the point that an AI is never able to recreate intent, passion and heart in art, I can't deny the fact that I'm having a blast that all the artists who didn't give a shit about all those jobs that were gobbled up by automation and computers, who sat on their high horse called "I'm an artist, computers will never replace me" are finally getting their shit pushed in, while the AI is ass-raping them.

Joel Haver's shitty AI Rotoscope bullshit makes me agree with that old, pompous, senile butthole's point.

Joel's animation is obviously low effort but the whole point is the jokes so it doesn't matter.
