It's because it's not the "guberment', if you don't like it don't buy it!

This. As long as it's not le ebil gubernment the cattle will not only take the 20 inch dick up the arse they will seemingly beg for it and get outraged when it isn't constantly shoved deeper into their rectum until the tip tickles their uvula.

What? None of them care if the government does it. No one cared about the Snowden stuff back in the day and congress just passed a bill allowing warrantless surveillance and increased ability to collect data for "security" reasons and zoomers stood outside protesting the 'Tiktok ban.'

The cattle don't have any distinction between government and large companies, they bend over either way.

        - tinkering with it on a spare drive (2007)
        - using it as a development environment until I broke it (arch) and found myself manually linking libraries, and got a macbook (2014)
        - running it as a media box with a few games (2020)

I had like a month of trial and error. (While learning aomwthing new; who would've thought) and after that I have not had a single issue with Linux. Have tried out a few distros and even with new distros; it's very baaic studf to figure out. Beyond surface level application and use; yes; there's complex technical knowledge tht can be obtained similar to using windows. The major difference being is that one rewards you for this and the other forces you into a corner attempting to rescue or salvage your experience from a becomingly more corrupt OS and corp by the minute it seems. Can I debloat windows? Sure. Do I want to do so and have to check it after every update and redo so every time? No,....no I don't think I will.

Literally the entire Windows Desktop needs a rewrite at this point or to have the pajeetcode stripped out which would probably revert it to Windows 7 because all the fricking code is still there I bet. 10 RTM had 4 start menus and 2 login screens.

              >Mint is shilled constantly by BOTtards
It is shilling, yes, but it is organic, decentralized, uncoordinated shilling by a bunch of people who all coincidentally happen to feel the same way about Mint: It's great!
(Though I personally recommend LMDE instead of regular Mint, but you do you, Anon.)

In contrast, the other OS shills are largely bots or paid pajeets and are shilling to gain or hold market share, and not as a commitmentless recommendation.

                Anonymous

98% the same thing vs. regular Mint (in my use-case?), except no Ubuntu anywhere in the pipeline.
It's like they've created not something based on Ubuntu, but a "form" of Ubuntu itself by having a Debian distribution made desktop-usable for everyone, by accident, because it's actually intended as a backup in case Canonical (Ubuntu's developer) goes breasts up and Ubuntu would no longer be a viable base for Mint.

In which case, if that *does* happen, you needn't do anything, because you already are on the "backup" system.

Plus, in its current state, with regular Mint being based on some 2020's Ubuntu LTS and LMDE on Debian 12 Bookworm from last summer, LMDE actually has a newer package base, altough this may only be an exceptional circumstance.

I was on regular Mint from last May to last January and on LMDE 6 since, and there's nothing I miss (on the contrary, since the packages are newer as described above).

If Red Hat/Fedora adds this, they're going to get a call from all their maintainers and the NSA. There's no good use case for this shit except workplace spying.

There is certainly a lot of buzz about this new feature. As exciting as it all is, I'd like to clear something up that seems to have gotten lost in the discussion.

Recall screenshots are only linked to a specific user profile and Recall does not share them with other users, make them available for Microsoft to view, or use them for targeting advertisements. Screenshots are only available to the person whose profile was used to sign in to the device.

I sit at my Windows 14 PC in my NVIDIA housing cube. I live in Cube Rainbow20791. I have never seen any of my neighbors in person, but I can't remember the last time I looked at anything without the bright and shiny overlay of Tesla Vision Advance making the world look like that Minecraft theme I bought last year to be quirky. The chunky pixels make me smile.

Today while I was typing a reply to my transracial post-black colleague, amogus5, I found myself frustrated since they have not completed the report I requested 6 months ago. I typed out "you are a..." and my finger rested on the "N" key for approximately 4x the normal amount of time. SamsungWellnessMonitoring registered the lingering finger warmth on the "N" key and I was immediately locked out.

My vision augmentation blacked out and all I could see was a metal room with an angry black woman in a Microsoft T-shirt. She told me I had been logged for pre-racial angst and was sentenced to 48 hours of sensory deprivation. Before I could muster a response all feeling disappeared. I could not see, hear, smell, taste or feel. As I lingered in oblivion I thought back to the time I delayed in reporting my mother for using gendered language for nearly an hour, but somehow got away with it. I should have known then that I was a bad apple.

I pushed those thoughts aside and committed to be better. I would dutifully download a pro LGBT+ and BLM theme for my Tesla Vision Advance after my blackout period. I can't believe I let Microsoft down like this..

Also with the TPM module giving a unique identity for them to track they can start putting things together for a nice record when social scoring rolls out. It'll be optional of course at first, just some conveniences, maybe a "privilege" given back to you but slowly it'll just become part of life, just like being fully spied upon by your friend microsoft became part of your life. I have a number of questions for you, anon, really. Have you ever used a customized win build? Have you ever turned a feature in an OS off? Have you ever used a PC without a network connection in the first place? Did you ever see a globe? A world map? Why do you automatically assume, that because of your personal tinfoil hat theories in the part of the U.S., everything is exactly the same in the rest of the world? In other words, why would Microsoft ever need to spy on a porn folder of some forever poorfrick in Argentina? Or in Mongolia? Or in Tunis? What is the worth of even trying to influence people who don't understand the typical American way of living with the U.S. propaganda? You are aware that most people in this world dislike the U.S. imperialism, right? That most people despise what U.S. propaganda is doing to their own citizens by making they believe from the young age that stupid = good, and that people should use words like nerd, geek as insults? Also, that intellectual and genuis should mostly ever be used in a sarcastic context? Why would they begin with the smartphones tho? PC market is tiny compared to the smartphone market. These are not loaded questions, more like, why the frick do you panic and scream doomsday?

TL;DR: Yes, the corporations prefer to have dumb consoomers, but you're blowing things way out of proportion from a number of different perspectives, including the most importantly, technical one.

I am not making a claim, that this is exclusively the propaganda of the U.S business, because any corporation in the world profits handsomely from, let's be nice here, uniformed folks. Tis a tred about mydickissoft corporation on an English speaking, founded by a U.S. citizen, imageboard. It might have been sold, but the american citizen is a good chunk of the userbase.

I don't think I've ever seen this. Certainly there are more pseudo-intellectuals than ever, I suppose.
I don't disagree with your point that the US govt. and corporations are best served by having a dumb populace, and therefore endeavor to make it so.

I might have been slightly exaggerating. There are tons of specific examples. Like folks saying:
                >I'm bad at mathemathics
                >I can't mathemathics
and/or something along those lines, and they consider it to be an ok phrasing while socializing. Those people do not feel embarassed while making such a moronic claim, they actually, seems to me, derive some weird kind of pleasure from it. Perhaps even feeling good about belonging to a tribe of idiots. Meanwhile all it takes to be good at maths is actually try and posses logic. At any point in life too. One might argue higher mathematics are weird and complex, but people can't fricking use percantages properly. Plenty can't solve simple equasions. How do I know? Because a lot of people I encounter can't even fricking calculate something simple 38 + 61, in under liek 30 seconds anyway, in their heads without a calculator. Not talking about young people here either. Also, people I'm talking about are not even U.S. citizens, they're from countries who kinda laugh at the U.S. education at times.

TL;DR: Situation is grim. Most people are seriously dumb as rocks. No, being good at one skill doesn't make them smart or intelligent overall. Because you can train a fricking pigeon to perform a simple action.

Mega corporations have always hated a free internet that they don't control. If MS is rolling out an AI to watch everything that you are doing on their computer then I'm sure a whitelisted corporate safe internet with mandatory browser attestation won't be far behind. I mean, you are bending over to take this so why would they stop here?

Linux is fairly easy. I like Linux mint because it's stable, fast, just works, and I never see the terminal. Lots of people like Fedora and in the past when I've tried it, outside if it's limitations, it was really good for what it was. I'd try it again but Linux mint just keeps on working. I hear great things about Debian and people like Arch but I don't, Arch is a pain in the ass. You have many options. Just pick a distro and run with it bro. Don't do anything too crazy and don't expect miracles. Run it on compatible hardware. Amd gpus instead of nvidia. Plan ahead and Linux is a breeze. I just played 7 hours of world of Warcraft cataclysm classic with zero issues. Ymmv but I design things in brics shape cad, I 3d print, i make money selling my prints and designs. You don't have to switch overnight but man your time is running out.

Games don't work on linux. You need a windows pc to play games.

If you think people are gonna switch to linux after microsoft's ai announcement, you're wrong.

      I have 4.5k hours in CSGO/CS2.
I use a Linux exclusive system now.
The only game I didn't get the run are old games that would require Windows XP to work on a native Windows system. Ironically, what games that do run under such conditions, tend to run better (or at all) in Wine on Linux systems.

If you're a normie and use Steam, 98% of the games will work just the same through Proton (Steam's version of Wine).
With more and more users and Valve itself pushing gaming development in Linux, it's safe to say, while native Linux might still be a pipedream, making sure Windows code can also run in Wine is certainly no longer a neglected aspect of game development.

*unless you have some exotic setup that's cryptonite for Linux, such as multi-monitor displays with differing refresh rates.

Hey, if you want that to work in Linux, go ahead and implement it.

            >Linux is such a hassle
Is it? Or are you just assuming that it is?
In the past 10 years I've gone from:

            - tinkering with it on a spare drive (2007)
            - using it as a development environment until I broke it (arch) and found myself manually linking libraries, and got a macbook (2014)
            - running it as a media box with a few games (2020)
            - it's now my main driver desktop (2024) for programming/media/games and I plan to finally wipe my Win7 drive.

Is Linux being usable the time Windows 7 (unforunately) stops being usable blessed luck, logical consequence or completely unrelated?
            You decide!
Because I don't care, I'm just happy it is so.

              >Is Linux being usable the time Windows 7 (unforunately) stops being usable blessed luck, logical consequence or completely unrelated?
Yeah that was my main motivation for trying it again.
I rarely touched my Win7 box anymore, but some guys I know talked about getting into some games, and I knew by then most required Win10 (never got).
When Valve announced they were ending support for Win7 altogether, I said frick it let's try Linux one more time.
And after some initial hiccups with audio, it works great.

                >And after some initial hiccups with audio, it works great.
Oh yeah, had that when Valve hard-switched CSGO with CS2 in September. Had to run it with some extra -audio alsa or something command.
Also couldn't use Discord and CS2 at the same time, would selectively mute one or the other.
Was a bit annoying to be cut off in the first few hours of the change.
But it's all fixed now, and works OOTB, and it took less than a week to make everything work in Linux as well.
Macgays are totally cut off from modern CS now, though, lol.

But yeah... no more Windows here on my systems, and, hopefully, never again.

      >Games don't work on linux. You need a windows pc to play games.
      This was true before SteamOS.
Wine and Proton have gotten to a point where almost any windows software works.
Additionally, maybe 1/4 of popular games made in the past decade have linux native versions.

There's a difference between working and working as good as it does on windows
Often native versions suck so much dick people would rather use Proton
Older or obscure enough games are a lottery, specially outside Steam. You're more likely to have an AAA game up and running that just came out yesterday (without 20 layers of DRM that is) without issues than some VN from the mid 2000s.
I'll be playing final gaytasy VII remake without a framedrop or stutter or any issues but the moment I try to play the cool adventures of princess girl looking for small unicorn made in RPG maker it takes a bit of a shit.
I'm not gonna comment on Anticheat because frankly I do not give a frick about online gaming.

A bit ago I decided to just not dual boot, just use linux full time
Considered that, even though I have to be pretty particular about what I use to a point where I don't really have all that much choice, it's probably still better than sticking to Windows. I have a work laptop where I have to use Windows but if I could, I'd ditch it, grab something like a macbook. I'm not joking, I'd rather use the iFruity shit. Privacy wise I guess it'd be the same, but the point is, Windows doesn't just suck dick from a privacy standpoint.

I think the biggest problem with linux for me is not that you have to tinker a little to play a fricking videogame, it's x11 and wayland. It's both. It's impressive how primitive they both are. I had to ditch a monitor for my setup to work as well as I wanted it to, and it's wild how scaling is handled really, all over the place.

The one that is the least broken out of the box, that has the least likelihood of breaking down the line, the one that requires the least amount of typing command line hacker shit and editing system config files just get get and/or maintain basic functionality, the one that has the smoothest easiest least breaking-prone upgrading (upgrading the OS, version-to-version), basically the least annoying, the least timesink-y Linux? Mint. It's not the most bleeding edge Linux, which may be a problem if you're a bleeding edge user and need the most up-to-date drivers, but it is the most stable just-werks linux.

I say that because a lot of compatibility software I've found that's separate from Wine and Proton like the Genshin Impact game launcher almost require bleeding edge packages in order to work, it even says so on their FAQ. You can ignore that, but it's sure to result in breaking.

The year of the Linux Desktop is finally here. Microsoft even made a dedicated Linux laptop with really fast ARM cpu, so mac bros have a reason to switch over as well!

    Do you use Discord?
    Do you use Facebook?
    Do you use Skype?
Do you play online video games?
Do you run Windows to begin with?

Last question: do you think you're that important? What do you have to hide?

If you really aren't hiding anything suspect like child porn why are you so afraid? Why do you care? Grow up.
