You don't get to decide what is AI or not. You are a normie foggot who is conflating the term AI as used in computer science with the stuff you watch on movies.

so basic school calculator is AI?

unironically yes. A calculator is artificial and able to perform logic. Its just a very, very basic AI.

                Anonymous

Compared to say, a rock, yes i do. Intelligence is neither well defined, nor is it a simple binary intelligent/not-intelligent scale. It is a spectrum of levels of intelligence.
A cell, a calculator, etc. are all very very basic forms of intelligence. Sentience is what sets human and animal intelligence apart from basic intelligences.

Watches dont perform any logic, they just tick.
And I never said an intelligence needs to understand anything to be intelligent. A mouse doesn't understand why it exists or what its doing, it just exists and eats and reproduces, and is still intelligent.

A brain is just responses to electrical pulses and neurotransmitters. A mechanical watch doesn't perform any logic or respond to inputs in different ways, a calculator does.

A digital watch could be intelligent provided you programmed it to respond to stimuli and act on its accord. A mechanical watch isn't performing any logic or calculations, its just moving along a set path.

No, it's just two massive series of look-up that adjusted themselves based on hundreds of terabytes of text using iterative first-order optimisation algorithms with a bunch of possible interpretations of your question sandwiched in the middle of them

I now believe that a digital watch is sentient. They are just not as sentient as humans. Intelligence on the other hand, is something else.

you can adjust your watch, it receives input and adjusts itself, according to how you perceive intelligence it is no different from a calculator in any way

OP is stating ChatGPT isn't actually intelligent, and everyone in the thread immediately starts pissing themselves, calling for mommy to bring the piss bucket while squeezing their tendies so hard they squish them.
Then they feel they must insult OP for stating a fact that ruins the fantasy that their waifu will come to life as an AI within the next year to take their virginity.
"YOURE NOT INTELLIGENT" one types, satisfied with himself. That'll show him. Oni-chan will be here any minute, I just begged ChatGPT to hurry!
"A- A- AI is anything in the space of artificial intelligence research" another stammers, knowing he didn't get it in as good as the first replier. He then proceeds to reeee for two hours while mommy holds him and calms him down.

You all got utterly broken by OP. Just remember, it'll all be ok. Dont you cry, little incels. AI jesus will bring you your waifu. Just you wait.

ChatGPT is, in technical terms, a 'bullshit generator'. If a generated sentence makes sense to you, the reader, it means the mathematical model has made sufficiently good guess to pass your sense-making filter. The language model has no idea what it's talking about because it has no idea about anything at all. It's more of a bullshitter than the most egregious egoist you'll ever meet, producing baseless assertions with unfailing confidence because that's what it's designed to do.

It’s neither a bullshit generator nor a super god. It’s something we don’t understand quite yet.

    https://writings.stephenwolfram.com/2023/02/what-is-chatgpt-doing-and-why-does-it-work/

And LLM’s also something that appear to learn:
    https://arxiv.org/abs/2302.04761v1

So, instead of being overly confident and full of yourself either way, just admit “I don’t know” and watch / study closely. It’s actually the more intelligent route sometimes, you know, saying “I don’t know.”

ChatGPT has a 70% success rate with object permanence and theory of mind tests. Facebook's AI has a 92% success rate with theory of mind tests, which is on track with the emotional development of a 7 year old child.

AI has been a thing since the 1950s. And it died down not a while later, and it is currently relevant again since computers have finally the processing power to develop models, as well as the data needed for meaningful results.

people dont realize that chatgpt is just smoke and mirrors. there is a massive hard coded and tweaked by thousands of pajeets frontend which does all heavy work to appear intelligent.
the actual ai is very simple and dumb, and can only generate words for given input.

    Classic case of:
    >everything we haven't done is AI
    and
    >everything we've figured out how to do isn't AI
it's a real fricking moronic brainlet take and it's pervasive throughout the industry. I'm really fricking tired of seeing these morons spout this bullshit. Same thing with chess, same thing with go, same thing with equational reasoning, same thing with automated theorem provers, same thing with self driving cars, protein folding, OCR, co-pilot, compilers, etc etc etc

We already live in the era of AI, and have for the better part of 40 years or more. These people who keep saying "X isn't REAL AI" will just keep moving the goalposts year after year after year. What do these people actually invision when they talk about "REAL AI" I wonder?

    Just ignore these morons. Seriously.

chatgpt is extremely impressive, and might end up being "revolutionary," depending on how you define that. i've actually been surprised at how useful and responsive these LLMs can be, considering at their core they're just statistical trickery

agreed, though, that it is not anything resembling intelligent, and people are overstating the capabilities by a lot
