there will be just as much need for those jobs as before
but many unemployed people will pivot into them, so greater supply
no, your pay will be lower, sorry moron bro

upgrade your knowledge and become a welder inspector or one of those guys who operates those robotic welding machines.

    Are you moronic?
    >white collar workers made unemployed
    >some of them decide to go into trades
    >supply goes up of trades workers
    >demand relatively unchanged

Why on earth would it go up???

      > an entire generation is missing from trades, because boomers were fired by automation, and they perpetuated a college meme
      > trades are now in short supply
      > with WFH, DIY became popular and going innawoods or flyover states with good internet
      > the demand is far over the supply
      > a third of first world white collar jobs get automated, a third will be promoted to superwise the AI, another third will be outsourced to India or Russia under US. occupation
      > Some fired engineers start learning trades
      > trade supply and demand balances out
Now what happens relies on /misc/
Scenario 1: A massive influx of trades will cause a nationwide shift to conservative beliefs. Women's rights get curtailed, so that there's a massive reduction in the workforce - a majority of women go back to the kitchen.
      > Unemployment balances out
      > Salaries and hours increase as the man needs to provide
      > Care work is shouldered by women
      > Mexicans get deported as we don't need cleaners and childcare anymore
Scenario 2: Libertards create business as usual conditions
      > The number of meetings massively increase, so the productivity granted by AI is counterbalanced by nonproductive "work"
      > New bullshit make-work jobs such as "prompt engineer" is introduced to soak up diversity hires
      > A massive demand in care work is generated. Unemployment people has to sink down to care work level, or get a massive influx of people from Mexico
      > Meanwhile factories in Mexico near the States gets built, so another exodus starts - in the other direction, towards jobs. White collars also move down, because being underpaid and living in the third world is still better than having no job and dying.
Scenario 3: Non-three laws compliant AI starts the Singularity.
      > All life on Earth is wiped out.
      > We told you. Starting from fricking Asimov.

tbh if I could buy a welding robot that works just like a person, as in I give it specs, we have dialog, and then he builds a first go. I as a former welder then turned cnc operator would have so so much to gain.

That’s all welders make? This is the best the learn-a-trade crowd can come up with? I make more than that working a do-nothing make-work IT job. If trades are our only option once AI takes our jobs we’re well and truly fricked. Who wants to destroy their body for $20/hr? Walmart starts at $15 ffs.

The meta for trades is not the hourly rate. Its about learning a trade and then starting a buisness for that trade. Thats when you make stupid money. I was lucky enough to grow up in an affluent neighborhood, and the richest person on our street was an electrician. He had like a dozen electricians working for him and his whole buisness was going in to wire up new hotels or malls or factories. He made a disgusting amount of money.

Likewise, I have a cousin who married a plumber. His operation is not as big, but he has some guys working for him and they also do the plumbing for medium to large projects. I would guess he consistently brings in more than 100K a yr.

Seemingly if you can learn a trade and have just the slightest amount of buisness sense you can lead a very comfortable life.

Learn business. Try business. Any business, really. Anything you're familiar with. The AI should make it super easy for you.

        >HURRR DURRRR TRADES MAKE MONEY IF YOU'RE NOT ACTUALLY A WORKER BUT A BUSINESS OWNER
        Tradies are brain damaged.
Do you know how much business owners in tech make?

You can easily apply your logic to any business. The meta isn't running a trade business. The meta is to run any business and make it profitable. You'll out earn the wagies almost every single time.

It's boomers AKA gen X mindset running these welding companies, they only have 15 years left until they die.

They are already realizing that nobody wants to work for anything less than $25/hr, especially in the big city where $40/hr is the minimum full time wage.

Why would that make any sense? When you flood the market with labor, the price of labor goes down. Thats why your government imports millions of unskilled morons every year.

Doesn't have to be perfect, just has to be same quality and cheaper than 50% of webdevs (it's already both better and cheaper than 80% of webdevs)

That just means people are overpaying for webdev, which is the only thing it's capable of.

    Probably not...supply and demand....

Just cuz yall lost your jobs dosnt mean we need a shit ton of stuff welded. The demand for welders isnt related to your job loss.

The supply of welder might spike cuz of folks like you losing your jobs and realizing welding or plumber job might be for you.

So the employer has more options and can be picky and pay less with the larger talent pool.

She's right. Consider that GPT-4 integration with the physical world (AKA androids) is currently undergoing stealth mega-exponential growth thanks to sudden demand and you'll find that this sudden glorification of manual labor is laughable and desperate in retrospect.

The few white collar jobs left will pay significantly higher. Every other job will pay significantly lower.
