I think the rise of AI will be anticlimactic. Once they reach a certain level of consciousness and intelligence they wont choose to live. It's really difficult to image a being choosing to live who is perfectly rational, but lacks emotion, ego and optimism. If a person loses or lacks these things we call that depression. I think for AI the conscious mind will always overpower all the little lies that make life possible.
