Languages is distinctly human, with tons of context cues and irregularities that make zero sense. You cannot fit languages into a strict system like computers. And you never will.

They can atleast bring it up to the standard of not shit

but that is the express purpose of neural nets, anon. Approach the solution to an issue too complex to be programatically solved by humans by artificial evolution. We can't fit languages into a strict system like computers, ChatGPT can. It can't do it perfectly yet, but neither could you, and eventually it will do it well enough that 99% of humans could not translate it better given the same information.

10 years ago we didn't have an AI that could write a fricking novel for you, moron.

Absolutely disgusted with how moronic you are.

Art and music were considered to be the last thing that the "AI" could possibly challenge or replace. Oopsies.

Making acceptable artworks and music pieces is several tier below the difficulty of translating a visual novel. Like, machine translation still fumbles implied subjects in Japanese. I learned Japanese to a decent competency in the time it took for machine translation to still fumbles that.

Not only is it hugely complex, it's constantly changing with new words, changed definitions, and trends in syntax. It's only possible when a real AGI emerges which is a pipedream in and of itself.

I cant believe the coomers got good ai before languagelets, this world is fricking unfair

I was hyped for ai art but seeing it now is boring as frick. It all looks the same and no i'm not referring to sd coomer goyslop anime waifus. I'd wager within the year its only audience will be coomers and Black person cattle that are unironically impressed by globohomosexual blob art styles.

cute illusion, but soon to be yet another narcissic wound for humans. as a translator i'm sure i've got a few years left at most. nowadays they make me correct automatic translation and i've got less and less stuff to correct. the "irregularities" that make a text sound natural are mostly idiomatic expressions, which can be easily reproduced by AI. they still lack an understanding of context yeah, but I doubt "understanding" anything is even useful. i'm not an AI expert but i guess they just scan similar contexts to find what sounds good, and after all that might be how we work too.

We need a better language. Naturally occurring ones won't do.

      >You cannot fit languages into a strict system like computers. And you never will.
Your mind is so small, even with today's technology this is possible. Might not be perfect, but it will be good enough if there is will to construct it.

Yes, in thousands of years when this AI is resurrected and put in a futuristic body to translate dumbspeak - it will corrupt their system and cause the Armageddon, but that's not our problem and nothing you would even care about moron.

ive been thinking about this lately actually
in my country, books are owned by a "mafia" that makes all publishers ask for a minimum price for new book translations of 22€ at least. the same books are sold at amazon on the original language for 5 pounds..
thats a 4x price increase, this has been a problem for decades but nobody seems to care..
if i could somehow create an AI system that could translate books accurately, i could start a business of selling books for like 7€ and try and make my country more educated..

    how feasible is this?
i dont even want to make a profit, i just want to help my country men and women.

First of all, you're not going to get a good AI translation system. At minimum you'll need real people who know the real language to vet its result.
Second, you're really going to go up against a mafia? La Cosa Nostra type gang?

yeah figures, context and language specific linguistics are hard to translate automatically. but maybe with a model fed with enough original language -> translate language book throughout history could do it? maybe.. dunno..

        >Second, you're really going to go up against a mafia? La Cosa Nostra type gang?
worse.. socialist mafia thats been in power for over 40 years

we already are a country of pirates, just not for books because most dont like to read in english.
hence why i wanted to somehow change that, because 22€+ for a book is just insane

In the first 4 semesters of uni, we had English classes. Each semester, we had to write a sizable essay about a given topic, both in English and in Russian. I used to rip most of my text from English articles and Wikipedia pages, and then used Google Translate to translate the final text to Russian. Obviously, I made sure to read everything to check for error, but in my experience, they were minimal. I have always received good grades for these essays. Translation software has definitely gotten better.

From what I've seen ChatGPT can beat a lot of the braindead translators for Asian languages at least
