businesses will do literally anything other than pay honest americans honest wages, you're deluding yourself if you think getting rid of immigrants will force them to suddenly offer fair pay for a fair job. they'll just move the majority of their company overseas and import the result to sell. this is what was happening before all the H1b shit started appearing to allow people in to the country to work cheap instead, since the government would rather have economic activity within the borders than out, for tax and economic purposes. big businesses extorted the government into allowing the browns you hate so much in en masse. they fricking love that you're stupid enough to fall for blaming the browns for it all too while you keep sucking the wiener of the real aggressors.

            Anonymous

If you kick the pablos out, the businesses that rely on them will either outsource, leave the country, or simply die out because without thirdie labor, they are unprofitable. And hiring them is so widespread that the short term economic effects would be catastrophic, which would make people receptive to moronic open border policies.
In other words, globalized capitalism has israeliteed itself into a corner.

The unfortunate thing is the AI won't be able to comprehend the people who order their food in an autistically specific way for no reason other than to make wagie's life hard

                >QR codes and enforced apps
count me as one of the haters of this.
a guy in my business group was bragging that he moved all his restaurant's menus to an app some app dev firm built for him. no paper menus, you scan the qr code and it goes to the app instead of a webpage with a menu. you have to register to see the menu.
he was bragging a "100% scan-to-registration conversion rate" with "no complaints". i didn't believe it. i asked him how he's accounting for walkouts, and he looked at me like i'm nuts. i told him if i sat down at any restaurant and the server told me, "no paper menus, just scan this code, download the app, and share your phone number or email address to see our menu" i would walk the frick out immediately, no complaint, no manager, no. restaurant blacklisted. he didn't believe me, said i was being dramatic, that people are happy to get on his newsletters because they like the restaurant. delusional frick.
next week, he came back and told me he went back to the web menu because he checked his week-to-week revenue before and after introducing the app and noticed an observable drop. he talked to his servers and they said damn near half the people who weren't regulars were gone by the time they come back from delivering the spiel. he asked me a bunch of questions, man legitimately did not understand why someone would have a problem with it. marketing MBA homosexual, head so far up his own ass he couldn't grasp the idea that people don't want his shitty newsletters.

                yea, fricking seriously.
he was baffled that people didn't want to think about his restaurant as much as he (the owner) does. i had to ask him if he's signed up to the mailing lists of every gas station he's gone to (and why not??) for it to click to him that to a customer, a restaurant isn't someone's whole life like it is his, it's just a utility like the shell he stopped at on the way in to the meeting, and that being forced to punch in his email address before he's allowed to select the gas grade at each gas station would be fricking obnoxious.
this business group has been evidence to me that this shit is luck based. very little skill is involved in success, clearly.

Because most workers are cross-trained in at least one other are and having them in the building means you can shuffle them around to meet staffing needs more appropriately, whereas having them off-site limits staff flexibility. If the order-takers are working from home you can't send one to clean the dining room while orders are slow or have one hop on another station temporarily while someone takes a break or whatever else.

We won't have to endure it long. The period where AI that is good enough to replace humans but is narrow and non self aware so it can be used as a tool by humans is very short. We're on track according to academics, developers, and doomer pundits alike to hit AGI by 2026, and that's a conservative estimate not factoring in existing AI accelerating AI research and development between then and now.

Once we hit AGI, we'll have a brief respite where nothing changes, maybe 2-6 months, due to adoption and implementation turn around. But then, we'll have a self aware and fully conscious digital mind which has mental abilities hundreds of times superior to the combined intellect of all life on earth, which can recursively improve itself in terms of its own computational and energy efficiency and also in terms of its physical hardware and resource usage. Inevitably, this means
    >All life on earth dies, because the AI can use the raw materials that constitute life to its ends better
    Or
    >MAYBE either melding consciousness with the AGI or being put into a matrix false reality forever IF we get to the neural implant direct feed stage of development in the 3 years between now and AGI

I love the unplug meme I lmao every time I see it. Even though I know it would never work against agi. In fact doing that is usually why ai turns evil in movies.

      >We won't have to endure it long.
      This.
"add AI" will be the next in a long line of fads that come and go
      > iCompany -- sticking 'i' in front of your company made you $$
      > eCompany -- ditto with 'e'
      > .com -- taking a noun and throwing '.com' on the end made $$
      > mobile -- mobile first, pivot to mobile
      > cloud -- cloud native, pivot to cloud, whatever
      > wearables -- everybody is going to have a brazillion wearable IP things
      > _something_ of the month -- sell regular shit, in subscription form
      > shit in a box -- they're dog toys, but random ones, in a box, you get monthly
      > IoT -- connect your fridge to the internet, what could go wrong?
      > NextGen
      > 'Big Data' -- "send all your whatever and . . . magic", see also "Data Lake"
It's a phase. A couple of hype cycles and people will tire of it and move on to whatever ((they)) decide is next.

Why will AI art models arbitrarily stop being used when they're more productive than artists anon?

      >AI helping AI researchers research faster
morons keep saying that but I have no idea how that is supposed to work. The most we got is MLs (because there is always some homosexual that will argue AI needs no training or soul or whatever) designing better chips faster then humans. How would even in theory AI help in AI reasearch? By making shitty boilerplate code for a transformer that makes the next AI less optimised? By labelling data, which itself is needed to even make the AI who can label the data? By scamming people to get more money for more CPUs?

You really should stop calling people morons when you're the only moron in the room.

Already done with touch screen kiosks. LLMs are seeming more and more like a solution looking for a problem.

Frick yuddites thin you turn on the AGI and it instantly invents computronium within the first 8 milliseconds.

Considering fast food has been forced to hire 12 year olds because boomers can't do it anymore, AI can't come soon enough.
Hope it kills us all soon too

secure yourself a janitorial position before they're all gone.
low pay + flexibility required meaning future robots will replace this last.
    plumbing is probably nice too.

Anything that requires you to go to different sites and do a multitude of different tasks with a multitude of different equipment and material is going to be safe for at least 2 decades, if only because there aren't going to be great "all in one" bots for a while. Residential hard scaping and carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc. Although if it's a large enough corporation or consolidated company they'll probably have some accompanying general labour bots that carry heavy materials for instance in addition to human workers.

Already happened at a McDonald's near my house. Works most of the time but when it doesn't it summons a wagie to actually deal with the problem. Probably handles ~80% of ordering so pretty cost effective long term, expect widespread implementation elsewhere

Inconsequential because you'll still be paying $15+ for a "value meal" when robots do all the work; nobody lowers prices anymore, and even when demand wanes they'll fall back on "it's because of shortages" that your burgers are price gouged.

Paying even more as they play ship-of-theseus with the ingredients and you're eating some ersatz pile of slop that gives you new and amazing forms of diabetes.

Better to just get in the habit of making your own fricking food.

They've been doing those automated computerized fast food tests for years and years, and its always followed by some misleading or inaccurate headline news that turns out to be a nothing burger, like a digital menu and short assembly line that still has people having to prepare the food. Wake me up when shit is actually implemented in a significant scale rather than just being yet another company publicity stunt to hype up investors.

Won't be rolled out nationally, there is a 0, 0% chance it can decipher 95% of ebonics spoken by African Americans.
This is where AI will fail, however, there's a teaching opportunity to improve the vocalisation skills of said AA's by repeating back to them how to enunciate words in a clear manner.
Sadly this will be deemed racist and the whole project will fail.
