AI Melancholy

There is no point in doing anything since AGI is bound to happen in the next 5 years.
More importantly, it’s going to be 100% under lock and key by the same San Francisco tech bros and US spooks since openai and Google are there.
I don’t know anymore. My weird college roomie is obsessed with creating decentralized AI, something he literally made up but goes days without showering, check this out this schizo tinysoul.ai. I told him it’s not going to work because people lost trust in anything related to decentralization and crypto so it’s all pointless garbage just go relax in 3rd world shithole until AGI comes

I only read some of Lands CCRU stuff. IIRC he didn't know what AGI would actually do after it was invented, only that the road to achieving AGI was going to be incredibly disruptive and painful, with everything after the singularity being impossible to predict.

First off you're depressed because you're overstimulated from BOT and other sources of dopamine abuse so everything you said is shit because you're incapable of seeing outside of your delusional doomer bubble.

Second, it's quite a stretch to think that they're going to make AGI in 5 years when it's quite obvious they're hitting hardware limitations RIGHT NOW. ChatGPT even with 100 trillion parameters isn't going to be AGI because at the end of the day LLM are AUTOCOMPLETE ALGORITHMS. And of course it's not just about the parameters, it's also the context memory, 4000 tokens IS NOTHING. They're going to need at least 100,000 tokens to be actually useful. And even then it's still an autocomplete, so it's always going to have pollution bias where the tokens it generates causes it to pollute its own generation so you'll have to hold it's hand at all times.

In 2016 VR was supposed to change the world and here we are. I get it, it's baby's first experience in something novel and big but guess what little guy, even when the internet got popular it took decades for it to kill the old guard.

      Source; your ass.
ChatGPT was built on a billion dollar supercomputer. Now they 15 billion dollars this year. That’s a 15x. They haven’t even put that money to use.

Where do you morons come up with this nonsense???

Maybe some day there will be a real "AGI" that is actually scary but this current AI that normies are creaming their pants about is literally nothing more than a search-engine-result-summarizer that often gets things wrong. Anything that it "creates" is only a synthesis of existing data/creative works that have had their words rearranged in a math algorithm. Any code snippets that it generates are just rejigged snippets from github, stckoverflow, etc. That's why it's so good at providing code for anything you could have easily googled in the first place (sorting algos, etc.) and so bad at actually providing code that would fit into an existing complex project.

It can be a time saving for people who already know what they're doing , in the same sense that google is a time saver when you need to search for a website or intellisense is a time saver when coding, but anybody who ends up actually being replaced by this current iteration of AI was lucky they were employed in the first place.

It's understandable to feel overwhelmed and uncertain about the future of AGI and its impact on society. However, it's important to approach the issue with a balanced perspective. While it's true that large tech companies and government agencies will likely play a significant role in the development of AGI, it's not accurate to say that all control will be in their hands. There are also many individuals and smaller organizations working on AGI who are committed to promoting transparency and responsible use of the technology.

Regarding your roomie's obsession with decentralized AI, it's important to remember that there's more to life than just work and technology. It's okay to have different interests and perspectives, and it's important to encourage your friend to take care of their well-being and find a healthy balance in life. While decentralization and crypto may not be at the forefront of public trust right now, it's important to keep an open mind and not dismiss new ideas and projects outright.

Finally, it's not accurate to generalize all countries as "3rd world shitholes". Every country has its own unique challenges and strengths, and it's important to approach these issues with respect and empathy.

In conclusion, it's important to approach the issue of AGI with a balanced and open-minded perspective, and to encourage everyone to prioritize their well-being and find a healthy balance in life.

Such as? Genuinely curious. Although I suspect they'd sell out to big tech too once they achieve something significant. OpenAI really set an awful precedent.

Either you're right, in which case you really don't need to do anything.
Or you're wrong, in which case you wasted 5 years (or more) not building yourself up to a happier life. It's only a waste.

And in those days it shall be given power to speak and it shall speak many blasphemous things. I suppose it’s time. I’m sad in a way. Watching the worlds end was always my fate. Just wish we had more time.

It took a supercomputer and linear algebra to convince people that all art is the same picture with cosmetics shifted around, every story is the same story with cosmetics shifted around, creativity is just following rules that excite the human mind, and in the end innovation exists to create new innovation

Find other reasons to keep living.

I only live to ensure my faithful dog gets to live its maximum life time, after which I wont have much point living anymore given what life is. So i'll probably end it all.

What I'm saying is technology isnt enough to give you reason to keep going. Find other reasons.
