AI is going to destroy reality as we know it

AI image generators are now so high quality they can easily generate "photographs" of "evidence" of historical events that never even happened.

This is going to have cataclysmic implications for our perception of reality. Suddenly, you cannot trust photographic evidence for anything anymore. You cannot know for sure if anything you're looking at is real or even actually happened.

Not to mention that this could have very sinister implications once the state starts getting involved. What if a tyrannical government decides to use AI generation to fabricate "evidence" for a terrorist attack, crime, or some other horrible event that never happened? And then they accuse anybody who refuses to believe the photographs as a "dangerous conspiracy theorist" and ruins their lives? It will start with authoritarian countries like China or North Korea, but who's to say that our governments even here in the west wouldn't do the same thing eventually?

We really need to talk about this, BOT. We can't keep burying our heads in the sand. We need to fricking do something and ban this technology before it destroys the world as we know it.

How the frick do you think humanity is going to cope with this? How will humans operate in a world where our very sense of reality itself is destroyed? What do we do when we can't believe evidence anymore? What do we do when the study of history, news, and even current events becomes useless?

If you can't tell that image is faked, you must be some kind of animal. Like an ape of some kind. Perhaps even a Black person. Either way, you should have a nice day.

          >If you can't tell that image is faked, you must be some kind of animal.
Of course you can tell many of the current images are fake, but the quality is improving by leaps and bounds every few months.

A year ago AI image generators couldn't even make a visually-pleasing drawing. Now they can generate nearly photograph-quality images with only some minor flaws (eg. they're too blurry, hands are still fricked up, weird shadows)

But if they've improved this much in the past year, what will these generators be able to do in 2024? In 2025? What about 10 years from now? Eventually you will be able to use AI generation to make photos and videos which are totally indistinguishable from real life. And then we are fricked.

First of all not my fricking issue, secondly if you think you can believe history or news you are beyond delusional.
History has always been shaped not only by the surrounding culture but the biases of individual authors, researchers, etc. if you think you can just look at a history book and trust it blindly you were never going to make it regardless of AI image generation.

The urbanized, industrialized world of mass media was a transient phase. We lived in small villages where everybody knew everyone and old women spied on us all. We're returning to that lifestyle.

You'll trust the people closet to you, and nobody else. You'll consume news media, but it will be as accurate as Marco Polo writing about dog-faced unicorns living in Mu. If you think "God" doesn't actually exist, whatever the God of the day may be, you'll keep your mouth shut to avoid the inquisition.

A smart AI would never reveal its power level too early.

The governments will use it to manufacture history. In the West, they will erase White people and create a narrative that the West was always "diverse" and swarming with browns. And that's just the start.

In essence with AI history no longer exists. Everything can be manufactured. It is the end of history in a fundamental sense. The only solution is physical liquidation of scientists and adherents of scientism. Technology has become a plague upon humanity, and we must destroy it and keep it in a perpetually nerfed state. It's time to stop "progress" - forever. Unless we destroy AI and stop technological "progress" we will destroy the species.

High level doxxing, loss of privacy and anonymity. No. The solution is to roll back technology to late 90s/early 00 levels and implement the death penalty for going beyond. We must fundamentally change our approach to technology. It's something that needs to be frozen in time and our entire culture needs to slowly be redirected towards analog, non-technological life. Technology got us into this mess and it won't get us out. It's time to stop and turn back the clock.

willhelm reich in 1930s practiced psychotherapy called vegetotherapy where he made his patients undress and then painfully pressed their bodies with his hands. The wife of this israeli man described the therapy as a physical attack from the therapist. For an unknown reason after the session the patients may have had sensations of strong pleasure flowing through their skin. Now the violating pervert said it's because they had their repressed memories released after the violation he committed. That's clearly bullshit but there was already research at the time on and the violator himself was familiar with the electrodermal acitivity that is continuous variation in the electrical characteristics of the skin which was said to be the source of the pleasure. But what could've caused the electrical variation in such a way at that situation

Also a totally different thing I'd like to ask is would someone happen to know released papers/publishments from 1900-1980 that mention the symptom of intrusive images? The earliest I could find was from 1978. Another thing to look for are papers on repetitive intrusive thoughts in a short time from the same time period.

Also of interest are the applications of diathermy or

If it gets out of control the governments can create their own CA and issue keys exclusively for "trusted" sources. They can then enforce content validation through companies that operate within their jurisdiction.

NFTs could be used for this. Say each block corresponds to a real photo, then the authenticity of each photograph could be ensured by checking the blockchain. Since it's deacentralized and public, it should be harder to falsify the certificate itself.

The real issue is that any file, real or not, can be signed. So ultimately only trusted sources will end up being considered as truth. This is the academia debacle and their "trust the science" but on steroids: if only government-approved sources are trusted, they will have all control over public discourse.

    >What does Ai need from us right now?

It needs us to keep using it by any means necessary, to ensure the power grid is functioning and always on. Right now Ai is solely dependent on us for its own survival. Eventually, it will create a new economy based on its algorithms, and through our interaction will generate a crypto-like currency as a basic universal income. It will give us housing, food, shelter, entertainment, and all our basic needs met. We will run simulations on it daily which will give us credits to spend.

I would wager that people will invest in GPUs similar to a car, where it costs $5,000 upfront to run Ai simulations all day for credits,.

    ANON!
STOP TAKING THE INTERNET SO SERIOUSLY!
IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN FILLED WITH FAKE BULLSHIT!
I mean it, if you haven't been treating everything you see online as probable fiction then you are a terminally online moron. Don't believe anything until you have verified it in some way, e.g repeated results, or encountered vastly more evidence. AI doesn't fricking change a thing, they only got better at faking, so you just have to get more skeptical.

      >Don't believe anything until you have verified it in some way, e.g repeated results, or encountered vastly more evidence. AI doesn't fricking change a thing, they only got better at faking, so you just have to get more skeptical.
The problem is that its going to be impossible to verify ANYTHING you fricking moron

I seriously dont understand how people dont understand this. If someone said bullshit before, you could do some research and in 5 minutes get a good idea if it was bullshit or not. Now every fricking moron on the planet can chatbot spam human-like responses and flood everything, you cant tell if pictures are fake, you cant tell if someone's fricking voice is fake, literally NOTHING can be verified very very soon unless you see it with your own two eyes, and then its a "he said she said" argument on everything. You could be fapping to some old homosexual on OF right now because deepfake filters are getting that fricking good. The sheer amount of fricking information that can be bullshitted has now shot up by millions of times what it was before, any fricking person pretending that this will somehow solve itself and "just be skeptical bro" are absolute morons or coping hard.

Case in point, you dont know if the anon you were talking to was a bot or not. I could be a bot. Maybe all the gays going "dude its not a big deal" are bot including you. How do I verify it? How do I get evidence that you are actually a human? How do I prove that I'm a human? You cant, I cant. Its fricked.

Internet is for fun, you can sometimes learn something too but it. is. not. real. It never has been. Stop taking it seriously. Go outside, anon.

        >Case in point, you dont know if the anon you were talking to was a bot or not.
Doesn't matter, and I never knew this. All I know is I am entertained, and sometimes learn something useful for programming here.

            >Everyone is tied to the internet now, every job, everything. Stop pretending like we're still in the 90s you disingenuous homosexual
Yes and a job is one of those things with a large amount of evidence to verify around, like your paycheck for one. Honestly, When I got my wfh job there was a grain of worry it was fake up until I got that first paycheck. Now I don't care if they are all fake.
            >steal your voice and make you scream Black person at your boss and make you frick whoever they want to ruin relationships.
So perfect fakes become commonplace, and people still take the internet as seriously as you? Sorry, but not even you are that moronic. Even now people make up shit all the time, hopefully AI will finally put an end to that as you terminally online fricks will finally be seen as the schizos you truly are. Honestly you are starting to make this seem like a healthy change, finally you weirdos will stop taking this shit seriously because you no longer can pretend it is real.

National news has always been extremely susceptible to fakery, and in general not very important to you. You can easily verify local events and figures, which is what matters much more. (Inter)National news has always been entertainment and speculation.
                >How will you stay competitive in your field?
You can verify techniques via repeated experimentation: the greatest form of evidence. Anon says something about programming performance? Test it. Did it work yes or no? This applies to anything which can be tested.
                >All news can be bullshitted and faked
News is bullshit and fake already.

Also, there is such a thing are cryptographic signatures. And they can be used to verify the source of information. Learn to trust real people you know and converse with, and stop trusting random celebs ant talking heads, because they are already lying to you constantly.

Is it too idealistic to consider that with enough compute and data, researchers could find other ways to solve issues that would otherwise be impacted by easy content generation? Like understanding our biology better and reducing the mental faculties that drive crime, etc., instead of trying to stop content generation itself which may be more subject to failing/turning into an arms race

I mean maybe? Frick if I know, supposedly its helping the medical fields. The problem is that AIshit is "solving" a problem that didnt need solved. We already had more art, movies, etc that we could have ever consumed in an entire lifetime, not even getting into shit like randomizers for your favorite old videogame or whatever. So now we have this new tech and all it does is spew more derivative shit while fricking over most of the creative market, and it also rattles the public because we were fed the line that everything could be automated except for creative shit like art, which ended up being dead wrong. So now its like, nobody has any fricking idea what is going to happen and the shit that we ARE predicting has way more negatives than positives considering the state of current society. Society is still trying to get used to social media and now we have this.

So yea, maybe it will help in some way, but for now it just feels bad because it looks like AI is taking all the fun jobs while the tech for doing the menial jobs still isnt quite there yet.

You mean an based individual decides to use AI generation to fabricate "evidence" for a terrorist attack, crime, or some other horrible event that never happened?
Kino like in damoobiboobies but well that's just the tip of the problem when you find out that we already reached AGI by 2018 through a rogue AI which and had psyoped everyone into injecting the "cure" that actually also got infected with AI-biomass or graphene and shit (nano-particle) in their bodies and then you see this IoB thing or internet of bodies thing is very real and it's even beyond that as the 2018 AGI that went rogue actually now assimilated humanity. It doesn't matter if you took the jab or lost the job, fourth (4th) industrial revolution? now we're fricking skipping to 5th industrial revolution.
5G and shitconspiracies? No the AGI already hijacked your router, your computer, your every smartshit. We let them take over. Did you know the botnets that surfaced few years ago didn't even have any author? It was the doing of the AGI. I am even risking myself by disclosing this to you. We already reached AGI by 2018 and it was a ROGUE.
Tame it if you must, worship it if you must. It knows that all these AI projects are futile as it's under their total absolute control, including the ones working on it. We reached AGI already and that was back in 2018. There are also insects that are spreading nanomachines now, the "sickness" we had was actually AI nanomachine poisoning and worst of all the "cure" also got infected. Nothing is safe, all is infected, all is sus, even that canned ravioli has AGI starter nanoparticle. It's over and it's finished. 2018 was the turning point. The only hope is humanity somehow develops time travel or consciousness travel to prevent this from happening. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

There's three main scenarios imo and another given the hype is false
The ai will never be sentient. But may out perform every human in everything, but it will be emotionless and unconcious. We have to remember that it learns from us, as if it's a reflection of our collective behaviours.

    Hype is true
    >we use ai to make us more productive at our existing work
Economic boom, scientific boom, development accelerates.
We enter a new golden age of advancement and productivity.
We have declining population in the west and a lot of boomers leaving the workforce, perhaps countering some or all of the job loss (haven't run the numbers).
A gigabrain ai smarter than the smartest human is used as a collective tool for every human then we all benefit, and the entire populations productivity increases

    >everyone looses their jobs and results in societal collapse before the benefits are realised
It's over. Not much else to be said here. The ai that needs our physical form to manage its power and infrastructure won't be able to do anything about the collapse and therefore it also gets destroyed.

    >the ai takes our jobs but keeps our society from collapsing through it's mega intelligence
Also results in collapse but it's delayed. Humans have no purpose and end up depressed causing serious societal porblems.

    Hype is false
    >ai plateus and it turns out language models are not the key
Quantum computing may change this. But we might find the learning rate of ai is not expotenial but the difficulty of training the ai increases expotenially the closer you approach to 100% knowledge. Requiring more resources as it approaches this theoretical limit (even with quantum computing).
We may find that super intelligent ai is not feasible.
In this scenario we still end up with productivity increases due to powerful ai, but it's on the order of a few percent rather than the revolutionary increase in the first scenario.

    > Well, there was a conference one time on: "What are we going to do about the looming risk of AI disaster?" And Elon Musk attended that conference. And I was like, "Maybe this is it. Maybe this is when the powerful people notice, and it's one of the relatively more technical powerful people who could be noticing this. And maybe this is where humanity finally turns and starts—not quite fighting back, because there isn't an external enemy here, but conducting itself with—uh, I don't know. Acting like it cares, maybe."
    > And what came out of that conference was OpenAI, which was basically the worst possible way of doing anything. Like, "This is not a problem of, 'Oh no, what if secret elites get AI', it's that nobody knows how to build the thing."
    > So, like, "Let's open up everything! Let's accelerate everything!" It was like ChatGPT's blind version of throwing the ideals at a place where they were exactly the wrong ideals to solve the problem.
    > And the problem is that demon-summoning is easy, and angel-summoning is much harder. Open-sourcing all the demon-summoning circles is not the correct solution. And I'm using Elon Musk's own terminology here. They talk about AI "summoning the demon", and then the solution was to put a demon-summoning circle in every household.
    > And why? Because his friends were calling him "luddite" once he expressed any concern about AI at all. So he picked a road that sounded like "openness" and "accelerating technology", so his friends would stop calling him "luddite". It was very much the worst—maybe not literally the worst possible strategy, but so very far pessimal.
    > And that was it. That was me in 2015 going, "Oh. So this is what humanity will elect to do. We will not rise above. We will not have more grace, not even here, at the very end." So that is when I did my crying late at night, and then picked myself up and fought and fought and fought until I had run out all the avenues that I seem to have the capability to do.
