AI hate thread

DALL-E is just a glorified search engine that copy pastes pre-existing image files, applies edge detection and then uses smudge and some other matrix filtering tools to combine the layers into one, and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
Instead of actually teaching people how to use GIMP, we've come up with this ridiculous shit. I'm reminded of that picture from a newspaper where a black person said something along the lines of "Computers are racist because they're too hard to use"

Wall-E was a prophetic movie. The majority seem to just want to maximize pleasure, rest on their laurels and be spoonfed randomly generated crap without any thought to satisfy their desires.
Socrates was truly right when he spoke of the higher pleasures, fricking plebs.

The true meaning of artificial intelligence is the phenomena wherein mongoloids can use these tools to mascarade as slightly sentient.

Thats how AI works, my man. It uses references as a basis, mushes them all together, then separates what it sees into recognizable images similar to the images in its index.
This is an article that describes how it works: https://medium.com/mlearning-ai/how-do-ai-art-generators-create-original-artwork-df665e02bd19

      >nobody is going to keep their "AI Art" and frame it
why not, I have been able to generate the best images I have ever seen with it. at this point the human artists seem like the imitators

Because its disposable. One painting is visually similar to another, and disposable by design. It is soulless. Sure not every painting is a masterpiece, but its special in the fact that somebody took time to make it. I like to compare it to a restaurant...a burger from McDonalds might be tasty and serve the purpose of eating, but when your parents make that burger and feed it to you it has more inherent meaning because it was made by someone you know.

        >it's a food analogy
all the images generated by AI are unique too, just a munch of coomers are using the same prompts and same seeds so they come out similar looking as intended
        >made by someone you know
do you only buy art from artists that you personally know?

          Anonymous

          >all the images generated by AI are unique too
AI art cannot create new styles.
          >do you only buy art from artists that you personally know?
Yes, or people that I know of. Again, thats why human made art is special. Someone had an innate talent for it, and used it to make the painting. AI art just garbles up a bunch of preexisting images, mixes them together, and spits them out again to look like something similar to what it saw before.
Don't get me wrong, I think AI art has a place in this world, but its not meant to be a replacement for actual artists. It is a tool.

            Anonymous

unless they are a goddamn savant real artists just derive their styles from those that came before them. AI can combine styles in any combination. Who cares how it's made if the end result looks like art. If you place some kind of sentimental value in human art then fine. I dont

I just find that view extremely cynical. Art is about the human experience, and it feels wrong to chalk it all up to a simple algorithm. Its something that has been with us since we started our existence. AI art is not expression, but a bastardization of expression. It is useful as a tool, but it lacks all soul.

Something like DALL-E is the logical endpoint for modern art. Not only is everyone copying each-other endlessly through creations which they don't understand, but now they have this program that can do that for them.

    Its just boring as frick

    Especially in esoteric circles
"WOAH THIS AI GOT A SONNENRAD AROUND THE BACK OF A TRADITIONAL BLACK AND WHITE GIRL PHOTO"
Holy frick you monkey get off your phone and go back to paying attention to your highschool history class!!!
I also hate that captcha uses the same tech for mass detection of things in images. Next you know instead of "find the car" in an ai image its going to be "find the terrorist in the image of an amusement park"

Bot ass post, I have no fricking idea what you're talking about.

OP, you had to be all moronic and talk about shit you have no idea about. You could have said DALL-E and the other """"AI"""" methods are just acceptably good remixers of fixed datasets that won't ever come up with anything of their own creativity (because they don't have any), but for whatever fricking reason you had to babble about edge detection, which is not the way they work at all.

Read a fricking book, and for the GPT-3 bots on this thread, congrats for gettibg permastuck on fixed datasets you tards. Making collages is not a measure of intelligence.

Thats not even remotely how the process works. Try SD with low steps, it produces white noise, not some unaltered photo.

This argument keeps getting thrown around by creative types to try and claim that it has less value or something, but if it really WAS that simple and STILL able to produce images on par with theirs, how valuable was their "skill" to begin with when it can be replicated so easily?

Cope and seeth moron, we'll all be replaced this decade. The best you can do is try to get UBI implemented sooner

I agree. Its a neat toy, but nobody is going to keep their "AI Art" and frame it or value it. Its can be used as a tool for artists, but I don't view it as a replacement by any means outside of making corporate art.
