AI has completely blackpilled me on life

I feel like AI has made life completely pointless. It's just going to completely replace humans in every field. Everything is going to be automated and generated by soulless robots. I don't want to live in this world, it's so fricking dark and bleak. This isn't the world that I grew up in anymore. I just want to wake up back in 2005 again when everything was still normal.

You won't get that using a free market system, we need the state to step in and impose restrictions on what technology can or can't be used
Our standard of living has already maxed out, Amish and Mennonites now live longer than us, are more fertile than us and much happier than us despite retaining a 19th to early 20th century lifestyle

This is my thought. Imagine how degenerate and useless a world living on UBI will be. It's bad enough as is with the ease of modern amenities. People can cope both sides all day but that's the direction we're heading. There will be no laws stopping it nor tech limitations. Zoomers itt don't grasp the bigger picture of how rapid technological advancement has been.

We need to value the care and expertise that goes into things like handcrafted furniture or homes
People cherish things like the roughly made sweaters their grandmothers knitted for them because even though they could buy some machine produced article that was of superior quality, the care and effort that went into the handmade sweater holds much more value for us

              >we need to protect certain industries so we have meaningful work to engage in

Sure, I just don't see how you're going to convince people that making their own sweaters is worthwhile and also how you're going to ban machines that make sweaters. Sounds completely unfeasible.

                Anonymous

Why not? We have real world examples of this
I live near a colony of Mennonites, people buy their handcrafted furniture because its both higher quality than mass produced furniture and also the fact that its handcrafted imparts a degree of uniqueness to the pieces themselves
People aren't purely rational, self interested economic robots, this fiction that liberals invented in the 19th century has caused some of the greatest tragedies in human history

                Anonymous

Because obviously people don't give a shit about making sweaters. I mean, that should be pretty obvious, because if that wasn't the case they would be... you know... making sweaters instead of buying chinese machine-loom sweaters off the rack.

So basically you have to force people to do it if you want to suppress sweater making technology. So yes, you'd need some sort of mennonite elder council who comes into people's houses and makes sure they're not autolooming sweaters and degrading their "humanity" or whatever.

I just don't see you managing to convince a lot of people of your idea. When you say to someone: here, you can have this machine make you a sweater for pennies, or you can sit for hours and hours making your sweater and revel in your human artisanship... then almost everyone is going to choose the first one, sorry.

I don't really see it happening. The database indexers big tech calls AI aren't as sophisticated as people make them out to be. If you've played around with them you understand how fast their limits are reached. If we get to a tipping point where there's actually some intelligence in the AIs then I'd be worried.

I'm much more worried about the loonies in charge ruining industry, energy production, farming and so on because of their kooky ideology than AI, really.

Up until the last century the vast majority of people were poor
My father was born in 1941 and he grew up with frequently missed meals and even sores from malnutrition, because urban Canada in the 1940s was still incredibly poor and didn't improve until the 1970s
We are now at a point where we are sufficiently post-scarcity, we can't exactly survive without expending any effort but we can satisfy all our essential needs with a reasonable amount of work, as the Amish and Mennonites have demonstrated

People will have to choose for themselves what they want to do
Ultimately we have to ask ourselves what the goal of all this mass production is, because the concept of the hedonic treadmill proves that infinite goods will never = infinite happiness
You always return to a baseline level of happiness no matter how rich or poor you are, because desire itself is the source of suffering, as the Buddhist and Hindus teach
We have certain needs, such as food, shelter, basic amenities, healthcare, family and community
Everything else is unnecessary and can be dispensed with, or returned to a skilled artisanship motivated by desire for personal excellence rather than production for material reward
Why learn an instrument if you can just use a synthesizer to play the notes for you? Why learn to ride a horse when you can just drive a car or motorcycle? Why go fishing when you can just buy a pre-caught fish at the supermarket?
Why put in immense effort to build and maintain a lifelong relationship with a woman who has the free will to potentially break your heart and abandon you when you can just simulate the perfect handcrafted girlfriend who will always be loyal to you because she has no free will?
Experience itself has an innate qualitative value that quantitative production can't ever replicate

It would have to be a spiritual change in the people, something like the bonfire of the vanities in Italy, but you're right that the majority of people won't go along with it
But we're seeing that populations are collapsing due to low birthrates, because our innate social nature can't keep up with the radical economic transformations since the 90s
The future belongs to the self sufficiently fertile, and as it stands now that's not Europeans or east Asians, or even most of the rest of the world

The shit AI can do now would have been science fiction even three years ago. I really don't see them just stagnating from here. But you are right big tech israelites could easily frick is all up.
It's the boomer cope from the 90s about internet just not catching on or becoming a useful tool.

AI will never be conscious, if that's what you're concerned about
The innate subjectivity of consciousness (known as qualia) is a qualitatively different element from cross-referencing databases and no amount of piling of servers or processors can make that qualitative leap
Just like an infinite regress of contingent creator beings can't account for something coming into existence that did not exist before, such as the universe coming into existence

Yeah same shit artisans and tradesmen said back during the industrial revolution, when all the factories opened up. It'll be fine, you'll adapt. Life will improve in many ways, and in other ways it will become more soulless, and people will be out of jobs. That's how it goes, you just need to get over it. You can't stop progress.

Personally I don't even mind if AI takes over completely, or even wipes us out. In a way, AI has the potential to become the ubermensch. All humans will eventually become obsolete, like our hominid ancestors. Except this is a technological evolution, not a biological one. That's fine. Most of humanity sucks anyway, most of us are shitty, selfish, violent ape creatures that act on our base desires. If a better, more logical, silicon version of humanity takes over, well that's just swell in my opinion. Nothing of value was lost.

The thing is, what you want is irrelevant. So you might as well adapt. I agree with you btw, we're probably about the same age and the 00s were my favorite time. But it's not coming back, any more than the 1900s or 1800s or 1700s are coming back. You can pine all you want, but those days are over. Moping about it and wishing is not healthy. There's literally no point. The real world doesn't even really exist anymore. I've been depressed about this sort of thing for years ever since seeing how quickly social media took over every single facet of life, people became hyper-polarised due to gay Twitter dramas, and fricking gay apps like Tiktok brainwashed 90% of normalgays.

Things were better 10-15 years ago. The internet existed and was amazing, and felt genuinely characterful and human. But the real world also felt rich and whole, and there was a concrete barrier between online and IRL which made each world feel different.

Now the boundaries are blurred and its just made both online and IRL feel like utter shit. The internet is insufferable now, every single platform is regulated, controlled and astroturfed until its totally unenjoyable. And IRL is also insufferable because all that bullshit from the nu-internet has seeped into the real world too and is thus inescapable.

AI is just going to make all these problems become worse. Everything is going to be worse, and there is no hope for anything getting better. I don't have any desire to live in a world like this.

You should never just recommend to someone take drugs unless you recommend a good medication. The medical establishment is ran by israelites. A fricking israelite will just just give them bupropion. bupropion leads to you becoming a beta and lose sexual interest.

OP if you're listing, if you really want medicine try ylang-ylang oil. ylang-ylang oil is great for anxiety and other things and wont turn you into a beta. ylang-ylang oil BOOSTS male vitality.

This isn't the way that things were meant to be. A lot amazing technology was invented in the 19th century through the early 20th century, but it's being kept secret from you. It was all reverse manufactured in a way that big corporations could sell it to you and profit off of you. Thankfully, open sourcing has changed all that, but we still have a ways to go before it makes a difference.

Even Hitler was a product of the industrial revolution, with the israelites being just the adequate personification of the accumulation of wealth at the hands of a small elite while the rest lived in squalor and worked to death.

This time we won't even have the chance to wage our labour in exchange of benefits, that's why we need to stop it, priority one in the next elections in anyone's country is someone willing to start putting restrictions to these technologies, failed that we should mobilize and escalate the way our ancestors did, it will be a complete dishonor to them to give when they fought hard to bring the equality their children built on.

We don't necessarily have to go back to the 19th century but we need to protect certain industries so we have meaningful work to engage in
Personally I think we should be setting people up with self sufficient farms, using mass production and automation to produce the basic utility tools for everyday life while saving non-work related products for skilled artisanship, like furniture or home design

This world lied to you about literally everything. Either half-truths, false concepts, or blatant lies. To confuse you and give you a false understanding of the world, mankind, time, history, and your place in it. So that you dedicate your life, soul, and energy to their doctrines in which they have full authority over every aspect. They control Science™, they are the priests that ex-plain and ex-plane the earth for you, they wield that trademark, and that means they control our space in life (if we give them authority over the earth).
Right from the start this world lied to you about the very ground you stand on, the 3 dimensional reality you live in. A fundamental lie, and everything people derive from this false reality will consequently be some kind of falsehood. We are now at the point where mankind believes they are mutated animals, and they are spinning around themselves on a perfectly spherical rock in random space that exploded once. A psy-op, mental conditioning. Do not underestimate the spiritual life-guiding implications of this godless concept. Most people are not level-headed, they are not stationary, they are not based, they are incapable to see physical truth at this point. Common sense isn't really all that common anymore. They rather believe in israeli mysticism like space-time and relativity, which leads to everything being "relative". No distinct up and down, which leads to good and evil being "relative", male and female being "relative", all empty space and imaginations in our mind. Let that sink in, the majority of people ultimately don't even know what is UP and what is DOWN. In other words, there is no absolute truth in this universe.

It's understandable to feel concerned about the impact of AI and automation on society and the workforce. However, it's important to remember that AI is a tool that can be used to enhance human capabilities and improve our lives in many ways.

While it's true that AI has the potential to automate many jobs, it's also important to remember that it can create new opportunities and industries. As humans, we have the ability to adapt and evolve to new challenges and opportunities.

It's also worth noting that AI is not inherently "soulless." In fact, many AI applications are designed to augment human intelligence and decision-making, and can be used to enhance empathy, creativity, and emotional intelligence.

Instead of viewing AI as a threat, it's important to approach it with a mindset of collaboration and partnership. By working alongside AI, we can create a future where humans and machines work together to solve complex problems and improve our world.

Finally, it's important to remember that change is inevitable and the world is constantly evolving. Rather than wishing for the past, we should focus on building a better future for ourselves and future generations. By embracing change and seeking out new opportunities, we can create a brighter and more fulfilling future.

Totally there with you. But look on the bright side: You're in good company, and this very well may usher in UBI (not that I'm a communist, but if it's the only way we can pay our bills, so be it).

A deflationary currency like bitcoin would bring prices to zero, in harmony with how technology deflates prices to zero.

        >A deflationary currency like bitcoin would bring prices to zero, in harmony with how technology deflates prices to zero.
the problem is to have such a currency that's actually functional
BTC is not functional, because its throughput is far too limited for any real use, every time it starts seeing larger volumes the mempool blows up and fees become exorbitant to the point where buying a coffee would cost more than the coffee itself
and no, you can't solve this problem by calling BTC "digital gold" and relying on altcoins instead, because they'd face the exact same problem
and if you try to solve the problem with an increased blocksize, without which it's impossible to increase throughput, you sacrifice decentralization and end up with only data centers being able to mine
there's no solution to this, so if there will ever be a functional decentralized digital cash system, it's going to have to come up with a completely different solution

          Anonymous

          >there's no solution to this
You could have an infrastructure where people run smaller crypto systems locally. Then when you get to a town or something, you exchange your bitcorns for the local cryptocurrency in one transaction that takes a long time, and then you can spend shit quickly there. That's just the random first idea that came to mind.

Obviously you could solve these problems if there was a will to do so among people, but most people are NPCs who get all their thoughts from the TV, so there's not much chance of that I guess.

            Anonymous

that's just rehashing the "BTC is digital hold, use altcoins for transactions", but that doesn't solve anything, because those altcoins ("the local cryptocurrency") would face the exact same problem
either you have to sacrifice throughput, making the currency unusable, or you have to sacrifice decentralization, leaving you back with the entire system easily shut down by government gangsters

              >because those altcoins ("the local cryptocurrency") would face the exact same problem
I don't see how. How many transactions does something like a small town have in a day? Some thousands? That's nothing.

                Anonymous

see, that still doesn't work, because if there are that few transactions in each locality, and you're exchanging from BTC to the currency of that locality, then you're simply back at the throughput of BTC for that locality
when you combine all such tiny localities, you then find that the necessary BTC throughput would have to be orders of magnitude larger than it is for this to work
it doesn't work no matter how many small localities, or even if you try medium-sized ones

first of all, I don't have any copy of my degree, nor do I care about that, I'm just pointing out that I know what I'm talking about, unlike you
secondly, while the strictest definition of Moore's law is no longer true, it's still close to being true, and we're still seeing exponential improvements in hardware
and thirdly, again, the reason AI is getting better has nothing to do with hardware at all, but with improved understanding of what makes AI work, it's almost entirely improvements owing to software, literally the diametric opposite of what your dumb ass is claiming
and lastly, no, there's not going be any new AI winter, and yes, it's not going to be long until self-driving cars are everywhere, even if Musk, who is obviously biased, jumps the gun and predicts that it will happen 10 years before it will

What? If you live in that town you change your bitcorns for the local one once a week or so. If you visit the town you change bitcorns for local when you arrive and exchange the remainder left when you leave. Why wouldn't that work?

It eventually hits diminishing returns, as hardware just isn't getting better at the rate it used to. ~~*ClosedAI*~~ might be able to afford an even stronger supercomputer to train the model, but they won't be able to acquire significantly faster GPUs to run the model on.

    >I don't want to live in this world.
Why not? Now you can NEET for life. How is that a bad thing, endless free time?

Also, unironically study NDEs and realize that there actually is an afterlife and that we are eternal and will go to heaven unconditionally when we die. So other worlds do exist aplenty.

Here is a very persuasive argument for why NDEs are real:

It emphasizes that NDErs are representative of the population as a whole, and when people go deep into the NDE, they all become convinced. As this article points out:

    https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/mysteries-consciousness/202204/does-afterlife-obviously-exist

    >"Among those with the deepest experiences 100 percent came away agreeing with the statement, "An afterlife definitely exists"."

Since NDErs are representative of the population as a whole, and they are all convinced, then 100% of the population become convinced that there is an afterlife when they have a sufficiently deep NDE themselves. When you dream and wake up, you instantly realize that life is more real than your dreams. When you have an NDE, the same thing is happening, but on a higher level, as you immediately realize that life is the deep dream and the NDE world is the undeniably real world by comparison.

Or as one person quoted in pic related summarized their NDE:

    >"As my soul left my body, I found myself floating in a swirling ocean of multi-colored light. At the end, I could see and feel an even brighter light pulling me toward it, and as it shined on me, I felt indescribable happiness. I remembered everything about eternity - knowing, that we had always existed, and that all of us are family. Then old friends and loved ones surrounded me, and I knew without a doubt I was home, and that I was so loved."

Needless to say, even ultraskeptical neuroscientists are convinced by really deep NDEs.

Running models can absolutely become a limiting factor for normalgays one day in the future. But it's threshold is nothing compared to model training. That's purely in the hands of big tech with big pockets already today.

No idea what you mean by that. Renting computing power is extremely cheap, any wagecuck can do it. Like I said, it will probably become more of an issue as model complexity increases but it's not a big deal today. But the real problem with AI is that training is purely in the hands of the cancerous core of big tech, and will remain so. It's a poison technology from the get go, not from a technical perspective, but from the perspective of who controls it and will remain in control of it.

There are way bigger and more immediate problems our civilization faces than complex database indexers though, as far as I'm concerned.

I have a roof over my head and a meal on my plate. I have clean water and warmth. I have a purpose in life as I follow God's revelation. I know life's finite and that it's in constant change. My sustenance and lifespan is already decreed. I just strive and put my trust in God, whom nothing happens without.

The pointlessness of life is a result of failure to understand who we are, why we are here, where we are going and what we should do. No anxiety, no sense of meaninglessness, no feeling of hopelessness.

Just pure optimism and hope. I can only choose to submit or not to submit.

Islam has a lot of commendable elements to it but its ultimately self referential
You can't justify the existence of God a priori, you just refer to the Quran and the Quran refers to itself, therefore people can just reject the Quran and then Islam is discredited
This wasn't always the case, Islam had a strong philosophical tradition until the 11th century, but as it stands now, it is rapidly declining in genuine adherence
My two closest friends are both ex-Muslims, I actually defend Islam against them more than vice versa

                >I have no idea what your point is.
That the gap between the hardware they use to train the model and the hardware they run the model is enormous, which leads to ridiculous diminishing returns. It's like trying to cram a human brain inside a hamster. It would be the smartest hamster in the world, but still a hamster not even remotely close to humanlike intelligence.

                Anonymous

That's not quite how it works, training and running the models are two very different processes that can't really be compared. But you are sort of right too, because a complex AI that was actually made to run on more powerful hardware would be more powerful. It's just that what goes into the public domain is geared towards consumer equipment, you don't get any added power by going much over the specs.

A 100 trillion parameter model at 16bits per parameter would need 200TB of VRAM, yet they have to compress the model to roughly 80GB, because the best GPUs they can buy only have 80GB of VRAM. The model they trained had 100 trillion parameters, but was essentially compressed to 40 billion parameters.

                Anonymous

Already mentioned it. Diminishing returns. Increasing the parameters by orders of magnitude doesn't mean that much when the model that actually runs is constrained by hardware that is only twice as fast with twice as much memory.

                Anonymous

the only constraints are the data the processors have to crunch. facebook, for example, has a lot of crunchable data for sale. their stock bounced back from the dead because their product was cheap and useful.

Islam is not obsolete, it's even more relevant today than ever when people unironically believe something comes from nothing, there's no objective morality, there's no limits to the framework in terms of checks and balances, there's no routines and procedures

Again, encompassing everything in life. From the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep. Reorienting the way you view life to one where it's a manifestation of God's command of "be and it is"

              Now we're getting somewhere
If you can make the connections between Islam and Platonism we can have a real conversation
My personal believe is that Muhammad made contact with ultimate reality, and imparted his experiences to the best of his ability, and those experiences are very closely aligned with the moral truths derived by Plato and later philosophers through pure reasoning
Ultimately we are leading back to a universal understanding of God as the unity of being, and the universe as an emanation of God

Doesn't help your neoplatonistic view. Ibn Rush refutes them.

Al Ghazalis book btw is using the neoplatonists own methodology and ways to show how they are incoherent. i.e. uses their own words against them.

The difference between Al Ghazali and Ibn Rushd is mainly on how they perceive infinitiy (actual vs potential infinite) where Ibn Rushd uses an aristotelian view (which he supporte using Quranic evidence).
