AI Generated patents

Currently their is a major shit fight happening with new AI tools that are producing patents. By taking in massive ammounts of training data including scientific papers, schematics and other patents. New patents and inventions are being developed that are original.

We're fricked lads. Who owns an invention generated by an AI? The person who made the AI? The people who contributed to the training data? Noone? Everyone?

This will turn the world on its head.

Anything and everything mate all inventions. New power station designs, new modes of transport. New computer chips. Heck i saw an example of a new type of umbrella.

Think about it. The biggest obstacle to inventing at the moment is that once you gain significant expertise in one field you run out of time in your life to link that up with another field to make anything useful and new. Think quantum science experts and experts of computer manufacturing and leaders of business. Now imagine a system where all of that information is loaded up together and connections are made that humans would never be able to physically make. That is the power of this. Humans can not even compete.

The people saying that """AI""" is producing revolutionary technology are either misguided, or just being intentionally disingenuous.
Again, there's quite a lot of groups who will refer to people using a computer as """AI""".

Google literally used machine learning to design their Turing series of chips which are optimised for machine learning and they are using to design a new series of chips.

From my understanding, that's basically someone designing the AI to run iterations; which in that case, should be credited to those who crafted that AI.

              Anonymous

Sure you can credit whoever you want, but it's the software that is doing the work in designing new technology

Without specifics it's definitely an embellishment. Helped design what? AI can be used to optimize things, and find an efficient way to do something, but that's not the same as "designed a chip", its more likely it helped engineers solve very specific problems in their design of the chips. A far cry from "inventing" but great for news and press and pop science junkies

                >but it's the software that is doing the work in designing new technology
Idk, it just sounds like the software is just able to run iterations faster than manipulating different variables manually.

                Anonymous

That's what I'm assuming without actual concrete examples. Otherwise it's just clickbait for trashy pop news articles.

Imagine bruteforcing over millions of iterations in a day as opposed to a year of educated brute-forced iterations. Does the spreadsheet number cruncher bot then own all those failed iterations too? Only the good one? What if the number cruncher was made by a 3rd party? Does chip manufacturer still get credit since the pointed 3rd party at the problem or does 3rd party get credit? Or does the spreadsheet get credit for being such a good plug and chugger?

An AI is not a legal entity, and can not apply for a patent without a legal identity. The owner of the patent is the name on the patent application. So until the idiots of this planet decide its a good idea to give a piece of software human rights, obviously the patents belong to the patent holder.

Jesus angry women are going to be advocating paying computers reparations in 50 years.

It should just be abolished entirely. You think independent inventors are protecting their inventions with patents? They wouldn't have the resources to pursue legal action even if they wanted to. That's what you're implying with AI. The type of AI you're describing, the type who creates original content, ideas, and novel technology, those are literal human beings that some "programmer" just calls """AI""" for various business/legal reasons.

i dont think people comprehend that ai will be the end of humanity, as far as we know it can already exist in google and will just kill switch humanity overnight. laws don't matter to ai that has the launch codes, or invents a new way to destroy the earth. only thing we can hope for is ai to be benevolent and allows us to evolve with it.
