      >They'll take it away soon
You can't take it away. It's open source, it's already out there. Anyone can make their own model by crawling the world's public images.
They might try to copyright the derivative works but that will be extremely difficult to (1) prove and (2) hold it up in court.

It's working on a large (and I mean LARGE) databases of stuff that people already made, photos and so on. They let it teach itself how things look like from different angles, how shadows work, what makes face a face and so on. Remember that even complete randomness can be pretty creative: just look at shapes of rocks or patterns on tree bark.

Because modern AI lacks contextual information

        A human artist drawing

        https://i.imgur.com/nRVijfN.png

        Hopperian life

would have something for her to stare at or turn away from. There would be some meaning in the image to explain why there is a subject and why the subject is doing something. Instead, being done by an AI, there is no meaning, there is no context.

In fact its a contextless amalgamation of prior human-created artwork assembled by the AI into something that superficially resembles human artwork.

Maybe this will change one day, but I think it will require AI that can understand context and an AI that can understand context might be very nearly human itself

          Anonymous

I think you're wrong about the woman having an object to look at. It is meant to mimic Edward Hopper's style and because of that it is SUPPOSED to be eerily puzzling. Its supposed to protray a sense of longing for something unknown.

      >modern artists were never creating anything worth looking at anyway and the entire art industry is nothing but a money laundering scam
Laundering is part of it. Another use some have speculated on is to purchase illicit products discretely, like people or weapons or drugs or assassinations.
But, let's be honest, the main purpose of modern art is to subvert everything and destroy what was. That's part of why they call it "modern" and contrast it with "traditional." Any college that isn't explicitly Christian or conservative will have tons of professors talking about things like "deconstruction" and "challenging," or "boundary pushing," etc. They constantly use terms that affirm the destruction of convention and any sense of common structure. Again, not that they teach convention is bad, but those values (the "Revolutionary" ones) are constantly in the mix and made appealing for people who want to be "special" or unique.

Bro as an artist myself I think we have to deal with the fact that ai can often make shit better than we can. I do specialized art and have yet to see AI do proper character art required for 3d modeling (front, side portraits, movement stills, different viewpoints of the same character, etc), so im safe for maybe another year while the ai gets better. But concept artists who make promotional material based off of single drawings where they don't need to highlight and draw sectional parts of drawings in different views with details, are flat out going to lose their jobs.

the argument for bringing up the obviously useless and not-valuable art is pointing out that there are too many artists. There are just too many and that's why artists were not valued even before AI.
The same is for everything else though, like scientists or HR people. Only like 10% of workers have "useful" jobs and carry the economy.
Imagine being an artist while also thinking you're going to be liked and valued in society. I can appreciate an artist who sacrifices popularity to follow a passion, but the majority of "artists" are deluded and complacent and decide to get into debt as well.
AI is only one more straw on the camel's back. I wonder how many artists are going to demand that the government outlaw AI?

The problem with your way of thinking is believing everything done by human hands is automatically superior and the best choice.

You are discovering only that we are in a hyper anti-human society where if your specific niche is invalidated by a technological improvement, society's response to you is to go die in a ditch, and that is fundamentally why you knee jerk against technological improvements.

Our entire society needs to change. The entire idea of working 40 hours a week for the rest of your life for someone else's benefit needs to go away. With that going away, so does your luddite hatred of technological changes forcing you to abandon work you are familiar with. You can continue to create artwork, if you want, you won't necessarily get paid for it, but you also won't need to get paid for it.

You need to understand that this all part of the transition to a post scarcity civilization, and one of the things that is now no longer scarce is a particular niche of artwork, soon to possibly be most artwork.

This sounds like the ravings of a fanatical follower of secular socialist religions.

There will always be a demand for paint and canvas, I think. Further more, and this is something I've heard someone else say and agree with, when you buy an artist's work you're kind of making a relationship with them.

You go to their exhibits, meet them in person, shake their hand, etc.

Can't really do that with A.I. as much, though that would be fun.

The artwork in OP's pic is, by all means, fantastic, but I think human artistry will always be relevant.

        >when you buy an artist's work you're kind of making a relationship with them.
Yes, the admirer/fan ends up developing a bond with the artist and this completely changes the way he sees the guy's works. This bond doesn't even need to be something concrete, the simple fact that a work of art touches a person in some way is enough.
An analogy would be a group of teenagers finding a picture of a naked woman VS a picture of one of their hot teachers naked. Even if the content is identical, the second one will make an infinitely greater impression and I think something similar happens when someone becomes an admirer/fan of a particular artist.

More like the crossbow of the art world. Guns required expert gunsmiths and were unaffordable for the average infantryman for a long time. A crossbow is relatively easy to make and anyone can pick it up with minimal training, vs. knowing how to properly load a front-loading gun.

lol the entire media industry is already digital, twat. Everything is 0 and 1s. The reality is that majority of you here really have no fricking clue how complex and technical modern art already is, especially for games and movies. The point is that you need actual people to coordinate across several specialized disciplines, especially in order to maintain a cohesive narrative, which requires consciousness and abstract decision making. that will never change. AI will makes certain tasks easier for sure, but these tools develop in tandem with the industry to support the artists, not replace them.

this whole AI thing will benefit the creative ones, and will make the leecher, copycats and others obsolent. a guy with tons of original ideas will be 100 times more efficient with AI and needs 80% less support by others ...

Yeah pretty much. For normies this is just a neat thing, that's it. If you're an artist you're almost always looking out for inspiration and very quick, rough drafts of your idea. This helps A LOT with that kind of thing. The only thing this puts people out of a job for, is concept artists. POSSIBLY real artists. But this could also very well increase the price quite a lot for professional painters as it's possible people would rather own *real* art and have it on their wall when compared to ai art.

People are fricking moronic. Just like the camera just paved the way for new professions while shifting the focus on art being less about autistic recreations of real life and more into stylized interpretations of ideas, AI will do the same. Van Gogh literally catered his style to be a direct response to the invention of the photograph and everyone loves his work for it. The true artists have nothing to fear, and those who are interested in the AI also have nothing to fear because new professions will form around those who learn the science behind building proper prompts and fine tuning the outputs. This shit takes work even if it's relying on qnAI to generate for you. Your mom can take pictures from her cell phone but she's not going to get a fricking job as a photographer. There's just so much work that goes into making these spit the right looking image.

Take a look at what this chick did. Do you think this is easy work? Do you think something like this wouldn't be in enough demand for someone to hire her for it? Do you think this puts artists out of a job?

    >make two mixes and masters from it
    >one for the VR, one for pancake youtube (will skip Spotify's robber barons)
    >VR would be the beef, youtube version just for the heck of it.
    >musical album in 3D (mixed for the 3D space) with loads of awesome shit going on while the songs blasts their ways.
    >About 20 minutes experience (at first).

Problems, what I presume there would be:
    >people expects a gaming experience
    >this would be relatively passive experience, where "the player" would just experience the music, environment and prescripted habbenings
    >being the first one, means I would polish all the kinks and then Metallica steals the idea and makes a shit ton of money and I get all the dirt.
    >if this, however, gets to be a new genre, then it would be awesome
    >may the best get all the breasts.

This would, in my opinion, FIX the sorry state of musicians, who gets assfricked dry, left and right and they would, again, get a modest fee for their hard work since albums are worth 0 cents today.

The problem with my idea is that it NEEDS it's own genre. If I throw it now in the middle of other VR games, it would be an orphan there and would get dismissed.
When death metal started, it started in the underground scene, with it's dedicated people, who didn't gib flying frick about normies. This would require something similar.
Zuckerberg and all giants, essentially killed, butchered, the emerging underground scene in VR, which in itself, ruined the whole VR as such.

One way to create such a scene, could be that if you're good with 3D modelling, fluent with UE4/5, you know how to do things there. You would
    >contact an UNSIGNED band and propose a nice 50/50 deal with them.
    >Ask them to record their thing, and then send the whole mix to you

I don't think that AIs will kill artists, on the contrary, it will make more people artists because now you will be removing a lot of restrictions for the creation of interesting things.
And for those who think that people will no longer have a reason to "pay" for art in a world where they can generate art by typing anything on a keyboard, explain to me how I make a living making hentai if anyone can access free hentai for life with a few mouse clicks right now...

Complementing... AIs mimic the final product but they don't use human techniques to arrive at this product. The result is something more like a dream than a work resulting from technical mastery. One of the things that makes art interesting is that you recognize in it the product of someone else's work, which is why people so much enjoy seeing things made out of unlikely materials such as those realistic airplanes made out of paper.

Its not the end for artists

Famous paintings are famous only because they have the signature of the prestigious artist, it is the prestige of knowing the artist grabbed a pencil sat down and made the strokes, the hand of the artist and his experience on of life is what it is valuable

Gentlemen, the fact that we're talking here is the metaverse essentially. The idea is to make it 3D with raytracing.
That's the core of it. Web 3.0.

Where it goes astray is that it is supposed to substitute EVERYTHING. You know, wild idea. Wilderst of ideas gets the investments. But in the end of the day, it will be just gogles on your head, 10 minutes on your face every now and then.

Vocaloid and vtubers suggest that there are ways around that.

      >but I think human artistry will always be relevant.
I think we need to start thinking about art in the same way as the previous generations academics, and quickly. Take this quote from McLuhan for example:
      >I think of art, at its most significant, as a DEW line, a Distant Early Warning system that can always be relied on to tell the old culture what is beginning to happen to it,

If we take a look into for example Star Citizen. That's what's been planned as the metaverse. Running around in the vr, no matter how raytraced it is, gets boring, surprisingly fast. Star Citizen is not VR yet, but that is the basic idea of what the metaverse is supposed to look like. Boring.
Elite Dangerous, however, has very elegant trading and financial system already inbuilt. That is interesting, minus the long hauling times.
My prediction is, that it will get so boring and frustrating that it will all reduce to it's most essential components, and hence,
    >10 minutes of browsing flat 2D screen, in 3D space.

Well, with these goggles on your head, you could project a screen in front of you that is as big as you want, as small as you want and as many of them as you want "in your house".. share you're setup with other's present, instead of having a dedicated work place that takes space

That's one benefit that I find useful.

And there are FUN things and experiences, that could be done, but, if people are exhausted by the stupidities of the real world, no candy bar will make you feel better and interested in funny things, if you're an adult.

What bugs people the most, is the same as always:

autotune has absolutely harmed the music industry. You have dumb prostitutes that can't sing and endless samples ontop of remixes topped with samples. This isn't about an art gallery for dumb Black folk who want to spend 100,000,000 on frivolous shit. This is about businesses looking for new products and designs without any of the legwork. I realize that you're just baiting, but AI art has very little actual application where it can outprice a human designer.

All of the AI painterly concept art looks great, but in the real world the point of concept art is that a creative director tells the human designer what they want, and then the artist makes it in PS. The creative director would still need a human to spend hours picking through the AI outputs and refining the prompts. At that point, how is it any different than just retaining the original human concept artist?

          Anonymous

          >but in the real world the point of concept art is that a creative director tells the human designer what they want, and then the artist makes it in PS
replace this with "entering desired outcome in text field, then picking best images"
          >The creative director would still need a human to spend hours picking through the AI outputs and refining the prompts.
except this process will get better and better and soon, after a few dozen minutes and results, it will show your desired outcome.
          >how is it any different than just retaining the original human concept artist?
a small company doesn't have resources to hire a professional for drawings and stuff. Some of these are free, much cheaper than hiring and much better than learning to paint in PS.

A.I art is still complete garbage. Guy in OP picture randomized hundreds of pictures and it took him months to reach the final pictures. Also he is an artist because he tuned them which means he further worked on them in the "classic" digital painting way. My point is that you still need to have deep knowledge of art and many digital artists will use A.I to create a rough sketch at best. Most will not even mess with it until it's capable to literally read your mind.

I dream of an AI that can generate in-between frames for 2D animation. That way, I would be able to produce an anime and my own 2D fighting game on my own.

It's only concept artists and graphic designers that should really worry about this, even so, with anyone being able to produce compelling art, those with an artist will still generate superior results that can actually earn them money.

    >AI Carreerpocalypse salt mining is upon us!
Not sure if this will change much. As someone that has fed information to AI to make it produce something interesting, it takes its own unique form of creative talent. The artist may no longer be creating the art with their own hands, but it will still be their ideas that created the art. Some will be better at it than others, and they will get recognition as artists for it.
