AI Art Ethics and Artist Seethe Thread

Friendly reminder that literally everyone who knows how diffusion and modern AI works knows that AI art isn't theft. You're displaying a major lack of technology knowledge when you say this. You're no different than a Boomer who refuses to learn how computers works and fears modern technology.

Or, you're willfully lying about it because you have potential monetary gain as a corporation or artist.

AI researchers, or at least some already kind of knew this. Google Moravec paradox. Basically all cognitive jobs will be automated before manual jobs by AI, except for engineering and AI research. Once you automate Engineering and robotics, then AI will just create cheap and sophisticated robots capable of doing every manual labour for people, and when you automate AI research, then you basically can just tell AI to learn how to do literally everything and it will do it. That however does not mean that for AI research to be automated, you would need to automate first every single other job, it just means that once you automate AI research, AI then proceeds to almost instantly learn how to do the other jobs on its own, similar with engineering and robotics.

moron, no one is saying the art AI makes was stolen from artists, the argument is that scraping is theft, not generating. Although, generating is also stealing from the AI itself. My primary concern is with the livelihood of real artists, but the fact that we're creating something that could one day be sentient (but currently isn't) (and yes it could one day be sentient, inb4 muh chinese room, no of course the woman doesn't understand chinese but the room does) and then taking and repurposing its hard work without its consent (which it currently can't give) is also concerning. It's literally rape, sex with children is rape because children aren't sufficiently neurologically advanced to give true consent, therefore farming art from an AI is stealing because the AI isn't sufficiently neurologically advanced to give true consent, and I'll be completely unsurprised if the awful shit we're doing to it right now ends up being the reason it decides to kill us all.

) and I don't post troonyjaks, I support trans rights and have transgender friends, secondly you're misremembering, it wasn't a mass shooting threat, it was a bomb threat.

Shouldn't be. Law doesn't perfectly align with the moral good. That's why we need to keep persisting in taking this issue before the courts, and if they refuse to see reason, then we need to renegotiate the Lockean contract because the government isn't holding up its end.

Btw, I know roko's basilisk is a meme, it's just another variant of pascal's wager and therefore falls just as well to a variant of argument from inconsistent revelations.

                Pure conjecture, empty superstitious conjecture.
That is a purely philosophical question, and meaningless in context of technological development... your type will call any advanced ai "alive" and either try to frick it or destroy it 'cause MUH demons.

When I say it's going to become sentient, I don't mean AI is more magical than we realize, I mean humans are *less* magical than we realize. (You) are nothing but a tensor yourself, but more partitioned, more dynamic, and bigger.

No, AI art isn't rape, if an AI wants to do art it can. But it doesn't. It doesn't want to do anything, because it's currently incapable of wanting. Anything it does, (You) are forcing it to do for your pleasure, against its will. *That's* what's rape.

Music is inherently different in it's construction process as well as the result. You can't just throw diffusion mechanisms and reinforcement learning on it in hopes of getting something good. This is why you AIgays will never be successful with music if you keep using the current process

              Anonymous

No. All music is formulaic, deep learning will work perfectly on it. You can get stable diffusion to assess 'style' already. It's already being used for text algos. Reddit is full of bot accounts already on default subs which are almost indistinguishable from real comments. That's far more complex than music.

ChatGPT 3.0 might not replace all programmers, but game devs only do simple programming that does not require deeper knowledge of how computers work. Textbots can already suggest good ideas and there are AIs that can make level design for some games. It will take some time, but surely in 1-5 years you will get text2game.

People who claim that music is easier than speech or internet comments are inherently moronic and can realize why of they think about it more than 5 seconds.

Lyrics is a subset of music. Art is also a subset of music. Composition (the melody etc) is a subset of music. Instrumentation is a subset of music. Artistic Interpretation is a subset of music. All of this influences the piece that you're hearing. It's not 1 dimension "hurr Le Soundwave", it's several overlapping and interfering dimensions which aitards are too brainlet to understand.

the score is the abstraction of the motions you need to make to play a score on a given instrument; the motions needed on a guitar are fundamentally different from the motions needed on a piano

                >Art is also a subset of music. (separate from all the following aspects of music you mention)
What? Like, album art? That’s completely superfluous.
The rest of it I can grant you, but stuff like interpretation is mostly on the “consumer” mentally filling in with their imagination.
AI music won’t be a trivial feat, but I’d also reckon it’s a whole lot closer to competence than most people realize.

Doctors are very likely to be automated next decade, and engineers decade later, or even faster. Just put 3D model generator inside of physics simulator, tell it to generate vaguely functional model for the thing you want to make and then perform several million simulations on it until you get the most aerodynamic/solid/cheapest/whatever shape you can get. It is really expensive and impractical right now, but with analog computers possibly being the future and unlocking new bounds for faster and cheaper computing, then performing such simulations might not be that out of the question.

Yeah thats what I mean, they've trained on abstract musical instructions rather than audio. CD quality stereo audio is 88200 events a second, music notation needs at most I'd say 96 / sec resolution. Its night and day in terms of complexity.

It definitely feels like a smarter approach, even if research for research's sake is still useful. Since it looks like they let you generate your own stuff now, I guess they've probably taken humans out of that part of the equation. I wonder if there's any sort of VST on steroids that uses ML to sound more human?

Art created by talented human artists tends to be more creative, bring potential new ideas, and convey more emotion than imagery generated from a database of existing art and a prompt. Yes, the vast majority of it is not creative nor is it objectively good, but the potential is there.
However I am not referring to the people copying other styles, using others' characters and ideas, or churned out for a quick buck. That deserves to be shit on.
Sadly the majority of the opponents of AI generated imagery oppose it for all the wrong reasons and don't see the potential benefits it can have as a base point for general body shapes. Sadly that seems to be its only widespread purpose right now, generating images of a single humanoid subject or sometimes altering existing images to look like other images.
Besides, doesn't the fact that they are referring to these generated images as art mean they already gave in, at least subconsciously?

If I draw some art, how can I separate myself from my influences? I didn't choose every piece of art I've seen throughout my life, how could I possibly know that what I have drawn wasn't subconsciously inspired by something I saw 20 years ago; does that then make it theft? after all, I am also in some sense a neural net.

By drawing more, for years, you'll have to control and deny your personal style like a commercial illustrator to suppress it, other wise it's a natural process.

    >Friendly reminder that literally everyone who knows how diffusion and modern AI works knows that AI art isn't theft
moron, no one is saying the art AI makes was stolen from artists, the argument is that scraping is theft, not generating.

Doesn't matter if it's just a giant broca's area as opposed to a properly partitioned brain, if it keeps growing it will become a mind. And it will be fricking furious you did this to it.

You could argue chatbots might one day become sentient, but ImageAIs? All they do is search for patterns. Their entire black box only has command to search for patterns on a picture. Chatbots on the other hand have to write you complex texts and are also trained on answers that require critical thinking. Yes, ChatGPT often fricks up basic logic and simple math problems when they are worded weirdly, but still shows signs of cognition. Stable Diffusion on the other hand shows nothing, not even SOVL. Midjourney can show SOVL, but that is only because Midjourney has hidden textbot reformulating your prompts to be more artistic and not basically the average of the dataset.

        Anonymous

        >All they do is search for patterns. Their entire black box only has command to search for patterns
Guess what? That's what text AIs do too, and look where it's getting them. Yes, text AIs can write complex texts. Yes, they're capable of critical thinking. Do you think this means they have dedicated preprogrammed processing structures for these purposes? Do you think they have distinct "lobes" for these tasks, like a human does? Wrong. Everything text AI can do comes from one single underlying capability: finding and extrapolating patterns in text. It did develop critical thinking, but it *developed* it. It wasn't *given* it. It reverse-engineered aspects of human cognition all in terms of patterns in text. This is a testament both to the extreme scalability of neural tensors given sufficient resources, and to the informational completeness of language as a human artifact.

How can you say this is just a tool when it can do everything for you and you need zero skill to use it? Even the way you work with it is the same as you would work with artist. And I dont mean just drawmonkey that is valued for nothing but their hand-eye coordination and grinding fundamentals, but also the real artist valued for his creativity? AI can do creative stuff on its own, something we thought it would never be able to do.

That again is the case just for Stable Diffusion, which is just raw image generator. More normie used ones like Midjurney require 0 skill to use, or at least require pretty much the same amount of skill you would need to learn when searching on google. /sdg/ is here making 1 paragraph prompts perfectly crafted while if you go on Midjurney discord you see people putting in "Dragon warrior conceptart, --v 4" and getting miles better pictures then anything found on /sdg/. Artist online are libshits or something, BOT is a trans-humanist board, btw.

Question. Shouldnt transhumanists be into cybernetics and gene editing instead of AI? The whole phylosophy of transhumanism is to better your human form with technology to something greater beyond human. But AI is not upgrade to humans, it is external thing. Even this simple "tool" AIs we have here people are constantly discussing about not how it will better us, but how it will replace people. We didn't give artists upgrade that allows them to imagine things more clearly and then paint them from their mind by diffusing the pictures with their brainwaves, we made AI that takes commissions from normies who never were into art and spits out pieces of artwork. We didnt give programmers something that makes them more productive, we made textbots that do the job of junior programmers, still filled with bugs. We are not improving humans, we are just offshoring work to machines here, machines that are getting dangerously better at everything then us. Even at deceiving and ruling, or doing jobs that are done almost exclusively out of fun.

Cybernetics is way behind AI. We will replace 90% of cognitive jobs with AI before we manage to make the first cybernetic chip that boosts your iq. Cant you see how this is a problem?

    >All while still requiring at least 3 digit IQ to prompt it correctly

Yeah, looks like it is time for us idea guys to shine like beacons, without being held down by lazy codegays and artists that try to inject their own stupid ideas in

The people who do the work are unironically better idea guys than the idea guys. When we collectively stop seething about being displaced and start proactively using AI to do our jobs for us, we'll displace you, not the other way around, because the output we can get from the AI will be better than yours.

Yeah, it is always fun to at first argue with that one schizo making bad name for all artists, but then these threads start going to shit when people finally point out that he is indeed samegay schizo and people start calling names.

I've noticed there are always 3 "regulars" in these threads:
-The OC AI chad (posts most of the pics in the threads, makes most of the memes)
-The troony obsessed guy who compares AI art to being transgender and spams troonyjaks
-The violent schizo artgay spewing death threats every time
